That's true but since the barrier to entry is so high compared to other shows, when viewing this episode as a someone who isn't a fan it may still be precieved as only sunshine and rainbows. Even though the show technically is that we all know there is a lot more too it which is why I think episodes where the mass appeal humour is more prominent is a little better for newcomers to understand the appeal of the show. But it's like you said it's totally dependent upon the individual.

I guess my biggest concern is that the show is really great because of the characters. If someone sees the insane ponies and then watches other episodes, they might have been expecting something more along the line of insane ponies and get a bit put off. And I think that to fully appreciate those episodes, you need to know the characters. Take this scene from Lesson Zero, for example. It's missing half the humor if you don't know who Fluttershy is.
Of course, plenty of people have been introduced through Lesson Zero or Party of One and came to love the show. I dunno. I tend to stick with Bridle Gossip or Dragonshy if the person just wants to see an episode, and episodes 1 and 2 for people who don't mind watching a bit more. I think those tend to at least get people to see that the show isn't terrible or anything, and maybe intrigued enough to try more.
I also like to show this fan trailer to people.
