NOOOOO! I was going to do a non Nintendo thread. So this thing will only play steam type games?

What do you mean by "steam type games"? Ny physical copies?

OT: Looks really sweet. I imagine different controller layouts will be advantageous for different games, so this is great! (And it also makes it easy for both Xbox gamers and Playstation gamers to get used to...)

Edit: On further investigation; skip that "Playstation gamer" part. By the looks of the image you won't be able to put any sticks on the lower parts of the controller.

These are just rumors. Why wernt their rumors before gabe came out and said his statement? Because there isn't actually a system, he was just kinda speaking out of his ass.

There were rumors before his statement was made (it even says so in the article). His statement, however, gave them substance.

AH good to know, thanks for that. You can see why I'm suspecious though because Mr Gabe says a lot of crap(Half life 3 for ex)

I hope the don't go to overboard with the specs. Because no matter how good it is, aything over 400 won't sell well. It's a new brand, a company that not many people have heard of, and they are going to have to soley depend on Americas and Europe beceause they won't have Japan to help them out at all. It will certainly be intresting to see though.

Indeed, to all you said. And the lack of tablet controller will surely keep the price down at any case

Also, given all recent steps taken by the big three, this will/may end up as the only "hardcore" console on the market. A new original Xbox? (And perhaps with Playstation 4 as the new Dreamcast? :( Nah, I'm probably pushing it.)

I read another article from Verge suggests an i7 CPU, 8GB RAM and unspecified Nvidia GPU as the minimum specs for gen 1 Steambox (SteamEngine surely). With HW spec upgrades every 4 years.

Valve don't plan to be the only HW maker, in fact they plan not to be a hardware maker at all. I'm sure they want the likes of Samsung, LG and various PC makers to get in on the HW act.

Considering this, I don't think Valve will announce anything unless they have at least 2 substantial HW companies on board to make the device.

Also no BD or DVD keeps costs and size down.

It'd be an improvement, but it still isn't a truly unified console theory.

Looks like a xbox controller except a few more buttons in the middle...  Nevermind I take that back I suppose.  The shape looks like it though.

Has it been confirmed that the games will be digital based and not physical?

Also customizable controllers for different game types , that is a nice idea! But wouldnt that be a bit expensive o.O?

Well, it can't be more expensive than a tablet controller at least :P

As for the games; nothing is confirmed, not even the console... Yet!

they will make millions on replacement buttons alone with people like me... always losing stuff like remotes, wireless mouses, heck I even had to buy 3 new wacom tablet pens cause I kept misplacing them..
