That's actually the true reason Nintendo is making a 2d Mario this year

If its coming out to the Wii, then its coming out to the 3DS. EA hasn't confirmed anything as far as I can tell. All we have is place holders in various online retailers.

Additionally, I am pretty sure that EAs contract with NFL is that it must be released on all current game consoles in order for EA to continue to be the sole NFL game creator.

lol ok fine. Granted, I have only ever bought one Madden game in my entire life and that one I sold a week later.

The only reason this would be even a little bit exciting is if it is cross platform.

Sounds nice, but the majority of sales are on the consoles anyway (PS3/360) and I don't see much changing. Madden was on the DS and PSP before as well.

I've only ever bought the console versions myself (SNES/Genesis, PS1, PS2, 360) and I don't see that changing. It's been 2 years since my last Madden, so I'll probably pick up the new one for the 360 myself.

They stopped releasing on the DS in '09 - I too thought they had to release on all relevant platforms as part of their contract. Maybe the previous version has to meet a certain sales mark? Interesting.

Regardless this one isn't a shocker, Madden on PSP always sold quite well.
