Forums - Sales Discussion - Sony’s domination = How much profit?

Despite Wallmart support (considering there isn't wallmart in the U.K) I'm still not quite cinvinced that HD-DVD is going to be a format winner. I guess we will just have to wait and see.

Have you heard of a store called ASDA? If so, how big is it over in the U.K.?

Tesco is the biggest company in the U.K once that sells more HD-DVD than Blue Ray, then I'll be convinced here.

I think Asda is second here, in terms of influence and size it's quite small compared to the Tesco chain.

Currently it's BR players are Temp. out of stock BR

It's HD-DVD's are currently in stock HD-DVD

As for how much they are selling of each I do not know.

*Edit. I just noticed that Tesco is now invading American shores

Good to see this site is still going

Althought this thread is going off topic i will add my part to it.

I wondered why nobody mention another "big" player deciding which format wins.... porn industry.

Thats all i'm gonna say this time.

Yay my first post here, althought i have watched this forum for some time.

Nothing's cheaper than something free.

F1 vs FOTA, when too much power is in couple peoples hands.

I had a feeling that porn would appear somewhere. If it's a significant factor, then it's yet to be seen in hardware/software sales. Somehow I don't see VGchartz covering the lastest porn releases.

Actually I think we best get back on topic now...

As for Sony donination, if Sony can hold out with the PS3 until around the 3rd year then I think it has a good chance in Mid-late life for a console comeback, probably not in the handheld market though.

yeah nice first post...why don't you go back to watching porn instead of further posts?  How many porn movies are even out on hd-dvd or blu-ray?  Pirates?

I just thought I'd add the HD charts from Amazon Germany. The second column shows the rank in the general DVD charts. BD is dominating HD charts, but still fails to break the Top 100 DVD charts. HDDVD fails to break the Top 500. Remember this is a snapshot. Amazon charts change every hour.

1. #116 BD Deja Vu
2. #130 BD Night at the Museum
3. #398 BD Alien vs. Predator
4. #428 BD Prestige
5. #429 BD Pirates of the Caribbean
6. #494 BD Pirates of the Caribbean 2
7. #506 HD Renaissance
8. #519 BD James Bond - Casino Royale
9. #666 BD King Arthur
10. #700 BD Eragon
11. #757 HD Prestige
12. #991 BD Kingdom of Heaven
13. #1047 BD Gone in 60 Seconds

14. #1066 HD King Kong
15. #1180 HD Children of Men
16. #1286 BD Hellboy
17. #1301 BD Ice Age 2
18. #1388 HD Departed
19. #1412 BD Pearl Harbor
20. #1429 HD Batman Begins

Hardcore gaming is a bubble economy blown up by Microsoft's $7 $6 billion losses.

This is big news for HDDVD, though I have some qualifications to make.

- If the deal has a $100 volume for 2 million units, would that be $50 factory price for one player? Quite hard to believe. Either the deal is bigger or the units are smaller.

- Walmart has mostly failed on international markets. They can't set the agenda in Europe or Asia.

I was thinking along the same lines...

I think I helped to break your thread and take it off topic...

Quartz,

It's cool. I got my answer for PS2 to kick things off and the HD-DVD thing has been an interesting development.

Anyone know how much Sony made in the Playstation days?

In fact the more I think about it, I might start up a thread about approximate profits made via each console...
