Forums - General - Wireless Router help

My Netgear router packed in a month or so ago and I need to get a new one.

The model that knackered was Netgear DG834 Wireless Router.  I get my internet through AOL and use my Laptop to wirelessly access it.  I have got a PS3 as well and will need a new router that works with AOL and will work fine with the laptop and the PS3.

I have seen this model:  Netgear Wireless Router 108Mb WGT624

Will this work???  If not is there a list of models that work with AOL?

Cheers for any help

Prediction (June 12th 2017)

Permanent pricedrop for both PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro in October.

PS4 Slim $249 (October 2017)

PS4 Pro $349 (October 2017)

Around the Network

I actually have a Netgear WGT624v3.

(Excuse my french here)

Avoid like the black fucking plague.

I've had this router for a few months now and have never actually managed to have an internet connection through it that lasted for more than a couple of hours. That is a wired connection, never mind my Wii or other PC which is wireless. That was when I first got it, now I can't even use the router full stop.

I'm no networking genius but I know enough about computers and everything else, I'm 95% positive this router is just... well rubbish.

It just... doesn't work.

I can reset the factory settings on it time and time again, use the Setup Wizard, it'll detect my ADSL modem, it'll detect DHCP, and then go on to tell me there is no internet connection at all. No ammount of manual configuring either sorts this. The connection IS there but this router just refuses to accept that, and times out on any request I make.

I may just be very unlucky or overlooking something trivial (which by now I doubt), but this router is just... well I wouldn't wish it upon anyone.

If you can, find a Linksys or d-link. Try and get a G or N (wireless routers are backwards compatible to older frequency ranges). I don't like netgear routers at all.

BTW, your router is independant from your AOL internet connection. As far as I know, there isn't a list of routers that work with AOL, they should all work. What it depends on is what sort of wireless network adapters you have, but like I said, new routers are generally backwards compatible to the older frequency types. The newest ones are N, which have super fast (for over air) transmission speeds, but they are more pricey (especially the adapters...sheesh).
