Well, duh.
The CEO says their products sell well? Even if they didn't (note that I know nothing about the recent sales numbers) sell well he'd still say it. What kind of CEO would publicly state - during the launch week - that his company's newest product doesn't sell well?

My personal guess: Vita will probably sell better in the US than in Japan at launch.

And for memory prices: They aren't so outrageous either. At least here in Japan the prices for Vita memory cards correspond with high end SD cards from big/famous manufacturers like Panasonic, Toshiba and the like.
(I still think they should have gone with micro SD cards, though...)

Well... "very, very positive" is directly measured through their expectations, and how would their stockholders react if he said "Our new product is selling like shit"?


I'll wait for actual numbers before putting weight on any of this statement.

Japanese sales are bad... the west sales are good so far.

So he's 50% right.

The fact that he is so positive on the sales in Japan demonstrates how low his standards are ...

With that said, I doubt the PS-Vita's sales are going to be terrible in its launch week; and I think the important question is how will it be selling a month (or six weeks) from now. Whether or not more average consumers buy the PS-Vita determines whether the system will be successful, or whether the system needs a price cut, not whether or not Sony's dedicated fans buy it on day one.

This is slightly crude logic, don't you think? Of course all consoles drop roughly the same amount after christmas if all you look at are percentages. But the Vita is currently selling about 1/4 of what the PSP did at this point in its life (at the same price) and not even 1/2 of what the 3DS sold last year (again, at the same price and neither the PSP nor the 3DS had much software in the beginning). Of course sales will go up once good software arrives but unlike Nintendo Sony currently isn't in the position to do a drastic price drop because they are losing money on the hardware already. 

I've said this in another thread already: Nintendo's decision to abandon the mass market and focus on the core gamers with the 3DS hurt both Nintendo and Sony. Nintendo lost around 50% of their market (if not more, which is terrible) and Sony is losing a good chunk of their customers to Nintendo with Nintendo getting Monster Hunter and Resident Evil. I sincerely hope with 2D Mario and Brain Training on their way Nintendo will focus more on the mass market again. 3DS sales would skyrocket and Sony should be able to get a bigger chunk of the core gaming market that way. Both companies need to focus on growth instead of cannibalizing each other's sales.

OT: If I remember correctly "Very very well" is marketing speech for "I won't give you any numbers because they are not as good as we expected." They certainly are not pleased with Japan sales. 

can't say i'm surprised by his comments, and i'm not worried about Vita Japan as the only game released that cater to their taste is Gravity Daze.

lets see how its first month on the market ww is, then get back to this topic in 5 months and then we'll see.

my expectations are middle ground at best, so i'm sure what ever happens i'll be ok with.
