Forums - Microsoft - Watch how Turn 10 puts 'Rampage' Jackson's car in Forza 4

Examiner

Ever wonder how game developers like Turn 10 Studios turn hundreds of real-world cars into virtual cars for games like Forza Motorsport 4? A new video released on Wednesday shows the process including a little of what went into capturing MMA Fighter Quinton "Rampage" Jackson's  2010 Dodge Challenger SRT8.

The most accurate method used is to tape lines on the cars and scan it. This creates data for the inside and outside of the car that is accurate to 12,000th of a inch. Another way is to take photographs of the car to capture the textures and to create the 3D model of the car using the shapes captures in the photos.

Sounds are just as important as the team straps cars to a machine that measures horsepower and captures the sound of running through all the gears under load.

When I see the amount of work that goes into this, I'm comforted in the knowledge that I actually pay for the games I play. Most of them I buy new, by the way.

So it's magic?

Surely sim racers are the most in depth genre when it comes to development.

That.

PS One/2/p/3slim/Vita owner. I survived the Apocalyps3/Collaps3 and all I got was this lousy signature.
