Forums - Nintendo - Will Nintendo do another cross-platform launch title like LoZ:TP?

Will Nintendo announce a cross-platform launch title for WiiU?

They already did in Japan... 18 37.50%

It could happen. 8 16.67%

Unlikely. 12 25.00%

Oh hell no! It'd advers... 7 14.58%

Uhhh.... I dunno. 3 6.25%

I was thinking Pandora's Tower would likely be my last Wii game purchase as I didn't expect Nintendo to give Wii any more support.   Then the idea of another cross-platform title like Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess crossed my mind.

At first I rejected it, since unlike Wii and GC which shared similar graphics, WiiU graphics would be vastly superior to Wii's.

However.... Most of Nintendo's IPs are very cartoonish and basic in nature and a downscaled Wii version of the same game would certainly be possible without much sacrifice.

Something like StarFox would be a perfect title to show off the WiiU controllers capabilities but a Wii version of the same game would certainly be possible without adversely affecting gameplay.

Zelda:TP sold well on both systems.  GC only had a fraction of Wii's base too.  And GC sales of Z:TP did not adversely affect Wii sales in any way.

I chose the "Oh Hell Nah!!!" one.
So, hopefully they will not as it would make the sales possibly halved.

Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Sales Wii  6.4m   GC  1.56m

I don't think halving sales is much of a worry.

It still could have pushed even more if it was exclusive.

How?   Wii was sold out everywhere for it's first 18 months.   And Wii Sports drove the bulk of those sales.   It anything the scarcity of Wii's might have increased the GC version's sales.

Having it exclusive would mean that if you wanted it you would of had to buy the Wii. Some Zelda Fans (or just people who like the game) could of saw no use in buying the Wii and stayed with their GC. But, making TP exclusive to Wii would have almost forced those other people to buy the Wii if they wanted it bad enough.

Normally that would be a reasonable expectation, but considering Nintendo could not possibly have sold any more Wii's (they were sold out always) it's not possible more people could have bought Wii's.   If anything, they would have lost some of those Zelda game sales because people couldn't find a Wii to play Zelda on.  As is, they at least had the option of getting the GC version in case they couldn't wait to get a Wii or simply didn't want one.

If Nintendo is worried about poor sales for WiiU, then that might be a strategy to boost sales.   Although Dragon Quest X is launching on WiiU and still on Wii in Japan so it doesn't seem too much of a concern for them.

They could release a Wii Fit plus U multi-platform with 3DS connectivity as well

Nintendo have given up pretty much all Wii support now, so I think it's unlikely.

~~~~ Mario Kart 8 drove far past my expectations! Never again will I doubt the wheels of a Monster Franchise! :0 ~~~~
Reggie did say they'd still support it. I know it looks bad, right now, but then, it was even worse last year when only Mario Sports Mix was announced for the whole year until Zelda was due, but then came E3 and Wii Sports Motion, Kirby, Mario Party 9 and Rhythm Heaven were announced. If memory serves 2010 was also crap at first and then we got DKCR and Epic Yarn. So we won't know until E3. I hope Wii gets DQX at least in the west if not a true Nintendo IP.
