Forums - Sales - Microsoft responds to the NPD Group Australia’s 2011 report

VG247

Microsoft has issued its own response to the NPD Group Australia’s 2011 report, highlighting data in opposition to Sony’s claim to have won the year.

“It’s clear to see that the momentum in this industry is with Microsoft and the Xbox platform. We won at the telling Christmas period, we are standalone in our growth this year and looking at the past five years our consistency is unprecedented,” consumer channels group director David McLean said.

Microsoft said the Xbox 360 was the only platform to show growth in the Australian market, boasting a 5% increase in revenue across software, hardware and peripherals; Sony’s growth claim related to PlayStation 3 consoles only.

2011 marked the Xbox 360′s fifth consecutive year of growth of console sales and platform revenue, and is apparently the only console to do so.

The Xbox 360 was to top-selling consoles over the holiday sales period, and the platform had its most successful month to date during December 2011, and subscriptions for Xbox LIVE grew nearly 40%.

This should be a fun thread.

OT:

Good for them.

Seriously?

looks like MS tried to spin it a bit as well by saying they were the best selling during the holiday season....which doesn't translate into them winning 2011.

Some numbers from these claims would be nice.

Actually, they did win. You can't dispute MS doing better in term of being profitable.

Here we go again...

Well yeah they most certainly did win in the profitability department but as far as sales go (which I am more interested in) its still up in the air.

It's doesn't actually say anywhere Microsoft won 2011.. They are just boasting about profits and growth as usual, and are only claiming to have won over the Christmas period, not the whole year. Title is misleading.

Title changed.

well, media really always think no one read the whole thread

btw,in VGC,360 number sucks in MEAA area every week, even holiday season

looks like the who won 2011 yr. sales war has yet to end.
