Nah, we always could use some more Vita is doomed threads.

It's not an attack; you love SON¥ (that's understandable) and, although the final tally points to a PS3 win, I'd imagine the numbers we got weren't what you had expected. They didn't help to make this PS3 victory more conclusive. What I wanted to express by you having a worse year, in 2012 I mean, is my firm belief that the X360 will take wins in both shipped and sold-through to consumers. As a result, I expect your posts to become more sour this time around next year.

You're probably going to be holding your breath until November before we start seeing sales trends that support your firm belief.

It'll be a fun wait. I'll bring some chips n' salsa. Oh! and cream soda.

Are you including portables in this? Or just comparing home console sales and shipments?

Of course he's including the 3DS.  It's common knowledge that the 3DS is going to spiral downward to only selling 10 million for the year.

Speaking of Nintendo, it's going to be really interesting how sales go for the Wii U.  Kinda exciting knowing that next gen is just around the corner.  Can't wait.  Ah, who am I kidding, I just want to see new bar graphs on the front page.

@ OP

Kinda crazy how many threads we have about this same subject.  At least we got a new graph out of it, even if it tells us what we already know.  MS shipped quite a few extra 360s in 2011, some of it to make up for low supply at the end of 2010 and some may have had to do with a misjudgement in demand in Dec.  What's kinda funny is if MS had been able to keep enough supply in the channels in Dec 2010, you could take ~700K-1 million off their shipments for Q1 2011 and we wouldn't be having all this silly discussion right now.

Most of us are looking forward to the new generation. I too want to see new graphs! O_O All I actually want to see is sales for all the next gen. consoles. This is the first Game Generation that I have been really hyped for. I used to never get into gaming that much but I really am now! I really want to see all the new competition.

@Bold

I know how you feel.  I'm actually excited to see what the actual consoles are going to look.  Not holding my breath for anything too out there, but curious to know.  Well, minus the Wii U, since we already know what its going to look like.  I also want to see what next gen holds in store in terms of visuals.  Bet they're going to be real purdy.

For the visuals I don't see how much we can already improve on what we have now. I mean you could make the pixel count more or lighting a little better but there doesn't seem to be that much we can do. One thing I'm hoping consoles will be able to do is make the dang individual blades of grass! I know its kind of a stupid thing to say but I mean, come on! SMS could do it why can't all PS360 games? It would really finish off a game. Especially an RPG title because they seem to usually be based in nature.

-_-...
(puzzle.)

Gah! You know my puzzles I do are alll in order. You just follow the lines. What is this! I have like 30 more worthless Nintendo news articles to post in the Nintendo news thread for news that is not good enough for a thread thread. I have not time for this. Ask Korppi. :)

@Kenny Rogers

I enjoyed Conegamers recent one!

Oh my goodness you better get to work then! O_O

I don't think Korppi likes me...

Congrats to MS for having their best year ever with the 360. Good to see them come out on top for at least one year and put to rest all the doubts people had when they first announced they'd be No. 1 WW for the year so many months ago. (oh wait people are still doubting them, figures...)

That's because there is a shipped v sold discrepancy at the moment: i.e. they are #1 in sell in, but #2 in sell through. If MS ships much fewer 360s in Q1 2012 then MS's #1 selling console in 2011  achievment will smell a bit of manipulation, because what they sold in won't be a true reflection of actual consumer demand in 2011. And in the end it's relative consumer demand for a product that is the measure of who is #1 in a year, at least as far as this site's sales numbers are concerned.

So the "score" can't really be settled, until we see March shipments: If 360's March Q shipment report = approximately normal March Q => MS's #1 in 2011 achievement has no whiff of manipulation. 360's March Q shipment report is significantly < normal for a March Q => MS's #1 in 2011 achievement is somewhat tainted by manipulation. It will always be true that their sell in number is #1 for 2011. But it's significance / importance in the console war (i.e. the war between the companies, not the fanbois) is currently up in the air.

Really?  Can you prove that?  Link?

In other news, can someone restate how many country's Sony ships the PS3 to and how many that MS ships the 360 to?  I can't remember those figures, but I do recall looking at it and realizing that these comparisons are anything but apples to apples and the numbers can be bent to just about whatever you want them to mean ...

You don't need to look that far. Is there any other source of WW sell through information other than this website? If so I'd appreciate the link.

Unless you think that MS being #1 in sell in is in dispute?

You can't post that.  Those numbers are Sony biased and can't be trusted, even after adjustments to be more accurate.

It's like I said, if MS had been able to keep enough 360s in the channel in Dec 2010, then that would taken ~700K-1M away from 2011's shipped numbers and there would be little reason for further debate.  Oh well, I suppose.  Though, you are wrong about one thing, Q1 shipments really won't mean much if they are normal level.  What I mean by this is the larger shipment number for 2011 has a lot to do with MS making sure there was enough stock in the channels for Q1 (after supply problems in '10) and Q4.  VGC shows the average shipment/sold gap for the 360 at the end of the year is ~2M, which its at now.  Now, if MS ships like 2M in Q1 (barring any price cut), then we may have the 360 undertracked slightly for 2011.  If they do ship under 1.5, then retailers probably did overestimate demand in Dec.  I don't expect it to be too much lower, though, as stores may have been able to correct the mistake before the year was over.

Portables? You mean like cupholders? Sorry, I'm not following.

Yes, cupholdres obviously. What else are they for?

Yes! Yes! Definately cupholders, but only if they are manufactured using at least 70% post-consumer recycled plastic.

Everything has been said about 2011 sales. For the full fiscal year, we should really all shut up and wait for Q1 shipments. That'll give us a better idea of how much Microsoft overshipped or not and if Sony will only ship 14 million units or might actually get lucky and go all the way to 15 like in their initial forecast.

Quit trolling, Xbox lost in sales not shippings, get over it. It doesn't matter, sales matter.
