Forums - Gaming - THQ lists Warhammer MMO for fiscal 2014, has multiple unannounced games ahead

Joystiq

Recent rumors held that THQ had canceled its whole 2014 lineup, including Warhammer 40K: Dark Millennium Online. THQ responded shortly after with the cryptic announcement that it "has not made any decisions regarding the planned MMO."

According to a release calendar in today's earnings report, DMO is still on. The title is listed in the "Fiscal 2014 and beyond" category (Fiscal 2014 begins in April of 2013, just after theoriginal release date), alongside other games THQ claims are still in the works: Turtle Rock Studio's unnamed FPS; Volition's inSane; Homefront 2; and the "Patrice Désilets Original Title." Additionally, THQ has "four unannounced core titles" for fiscal 2014 and beyond, indicating an intention to remain in business beyond fiscal 2014.

Somewhat closer to home, THQ also has two "unannounced core titles" for fiscal 2013 (this year through March 2013). That's in addition to UFC Undisputed 3, Darksiders 2, South Park, a new WWE release, Metro: Last Light, and Devil's Third.

Can't wait for Metro Last Light, and I will probably pick up Darksiders 2 and Devil's Third (I am surprised it's comming to PC) if they get good reviews. And I can't wait to find out what inSane is and what Turtle Rock and Patrice are working on. I am willing to bet Company of Heroes and Saint's Row 4 are 2 of the 4 unnanounced games, the licensed one will be Dawn of War 3.

Really think Darksiders 2 will struggle in June... really looking forward to it though. Nothing ever really sells all that much in June, and I think THQ will be expecting far too much things from the game. It'd probably get crushed in Nov, but could of fitted better around August imo... will be a shame, hope not.

Gotta give it to them though, despite all their shrinking and troubles they have a pretty good line up. South Park, Metro, Devils Third... rad.

wait I just realised that means that Metro: LL is delayed to next year!

Oh well at least this will give them more time to make the game more awsome

Well personally one unannounced project is coming from THQ Montreal. I know last I heard the studio had two development teams. Making two games I know they had apparently taken over Home front but then Crytek took it. I am guessing the second game will be shown at E3 this year. I suspect the other core game will be a WiiU exclusive THQ has been eying UbiSofts position as Nintendo's biggest supporter.

I also fully expect THQ to announce WiiUDraw and finish the last projects the team was working on before laying off any and all remaining staff.

People are forgetting THQ Play which to my knowledge is still operational and likely preparing WiiUDraw. I am wondering what software they could be working on since THQ has announced leaving children's licenses and earlier leaving as many other licenses possible.

I think THQ is counting on WiiU this winter, Darksiders II is supposed to come and so is Metro. I am betting every core THQ game will be present on WiiU. That means THQ should have a good presence on the console this holiday season and porting to WiiU is supposed to be cheap and easy to do.

I fully suspect THQ to take full advantage of WiiU. I am betting THQ Play will release WiiUDraw then launch any existing draw software for WiiU.

THQ is not going to die this year that is my bet. They will return to profitability this winter barely but they will likely break even. Then THQ will maintain this strategy a few years until it is safe to start expanding again assuming the economy doesn't entirely collapse.

THQ can't pull a Midway though. Midway rushed its products when it started feeling the crunch they allowed quality to fall through the floor. They should have fought tooth and nail to maintain operations till every product was completed. Area51 was a big one if Midway had sold assets and cut all nonessential staff till they were bare bones they should have done everything necessary to complete their final products. I know I read they were starting new products when they went under, rather then wasting vital resources starting new projects they should have completed the ones they had. Perhaps if Black site Area 51 had been a higher quality polished game it could have sold better and given the publisher just enough money to finish any other projects.

I think Sega did the best job going down. They kept cutting they kept trimming but they maintained operations they kept producing games as high quality as possible. Until they were rescued that is exactly how THQ needs to operate. All it would take is one or two big hits to save the company.
