Check the latest weekly chart. The PS3 is down YoY even with the price cut. It looks like we've hit the inevitable downtrend with consoles. 2012 can still be fuitiful enough for the HD consoles to fend on their own and maybe even the first half of 2013 if they're lucky. But I don't think HD consoles will have the endurance to last through the entirety of 2012, 2013, and the first half of 2014, in a successful manner of course. I see MS. & Sony releasing new consoles in 2013.

I see them lasting through this year but certainly not the next. 2013 release date I think, as do you, for both?


Yeah, both will release late 2013 I think. Certainly not in 2012, like Superchunk predicts!

Yeah, those consoles could easily survive through 2012. I'm guessing MS and Sony just don't want to go head on with Nintendo's Wii U.

I doubt their late releases have any to do with fear from the WiiU. It's more because their current systems are going strong enough that they don't feel pressured to release this year.

I think it has a little to do with it. Especially if Nintendo comes out tih a really well selling game for launch... *cough* Mario *cough*...

360 i believe in E3. If this happens, Sony will announce the PS4 at the TGS.
If MS didnt announce 360 in E3, i mean, announce in events before september, Sony will announce at Sony Meeting 2013, like she did with the PSV.

Teasing it is fine, but showcasing a full fledged console (which atm is impossible imo) would hurt their sales, but I'm pretty sure majority of people wouldnt wait another year considering the price difference of the consoles would be when the next gen systems come out.

Expect a price cut from both systems to be announced sometime this year I am pretty sure, I believe the last holiday season was a test to see how sales would go if a price cut were to occur.

The problem is...these reveals at E3 etc. only really get attention from "hardcore" games and id say generally people who have an interest in gaming. Its not like casuals all saw MS reveal kinect at E3 and said they wana buy it, im pretty sure they saw tv ads, and in store displays etc. So a tease or a reveal like this is really only meant for or should i say it will only get the attention of a certain consumer.

For both MS and Sony this can be a problem since that exact consumer is their target consumer, less so for MS now that they have kinect. My point is a tease or even a reveal will be known throughout the gaming community. And potential buyers that fit this demographic might decide to hold out a year or two. I think thats what MS and sony (definately Sony) want to avoid.

It could be argued that most hardcore gamers already own a current gen console though.

PS4 at TGS 2012 at earliest. More than likely Feb 2013 at an investor meeting similar to the Vita when it was confirmed and callled NGP.
