They could change the design a bit but I think they should keep it roughly the same size. There are some that would like it bigger but clearly they're only thinking about themselves and not a vast majority of gamers.....kids. My niece cant play with her dad on his 360 cause the controller's too big for her but she comes and plays on my PS3 n Wii. Dont even get me started with the original Xbox controller lol XD

No, you just got the facts wrong, studies show (that I will not bother looking) that the vast majority of gamers are 35 plus. Quite a bit older than myself. The industry has been around long enough that most gamers are adults hence why mature rated games are more popular. If your going to think about the children they just need multiple sizes. Might be a good business idea as families would buy more controllers.

Well then I would like to see these facts cause I honestly cant see that majority of the +90 million Wii owners and +150 million DS owners are +35 of age.  There's a reason why there's also a ton of kids games in stores and not just focusing on the +35.

I also just said that kids gamers are "a" vast major of gamers not meaning they're the only vast majority.  If kid gamers is even 30% of video game sales then you better believe its best to market for the all-round rather than to focus on one.

If we're talking only PS3 i may agree with you but then again Sony isnt aiming for the +35.  This is all just my perspective so please dont take this seriously.

Do you understand what "vast majority" actually means? ... here be a hint, it isn't 30% :P

eitherway Sony really need to sort out an actual good pad because what they have now is far too small, flimsy and 'unergonomic' for a standard human hand :|

i would rather them copy the 360 controller's perfection. no gimmicks, comfortable and works perfectly..
kinda like the PS3 batarang controller for batman arkam city.

Dude you using assumptions not facts, which is just a not an logical  way to make a point (believe me i am putting this nicely because of how wrong your response is). Kids are not just 5-10 there is a long range of ages.

I hope you realize that the studies you were refering to include people who play flash games on the PC. I also hope you realize that people who are older than 35 see most M-rated games as juvenile. The reasons why M-rated games sell better than ever before are teenagers having more money nowadays, population growth in America and expansion of video games into more countries where there is more disposable income than ever before too.

I am by no means saying that V-rOcK isn't making unfounded assumptions, just that you aren't any better.

How old are you Rol over 35 because that is the only reason I can see you saying that?     Even if the average is lower why would you assume most gamers quit playing compleatly at a certain age ? IRates of play certainly should fall as people age over 35, but not end compleatly. And seriously with your statement I hardly know what is being discussed anymore.

I am not confident making any claims about what Sony will do in the next generation ...

Of all of the companies in the market today Sony is the one that is the most in need of a drastic strategy change; and, while I think the PS4 would be the first opportunity for a "clean break" from the strategy of Ken Kutaragi, the fact that the PS-Vita is still (essentially) in line with what Sony did with the PSP makes me doubt that they're changing strategy.

Although it doesn't have to come from a change to the controller, Sony really needs to come up with a distinctive way to improve gaming for the vast majority of consumers in a way other than simply increasing processing power.

I'd like it a bit bigger, and a bit more ergonomic joystick positioning (like the 360), but otherwise keep it the same.

They should make the DS4 50% larger than the DS3.

And replace the 4 shoulder buttons with 2 mega shoulder triggers (that could be clicked forwards, backwards, or center).

Then add a multi-touch pad on the back that can simulate in game surface textures by further advancing on the tactile pixel technology Sony patented a few years back.

Definition of "vast": of very great size or proportions.  If kid gamers are %30 and young adults is %30 then the rest of the 40% are a mix of others than what is the vast? I was just using 30% as an example, for all we know it could be more.  So technically me using the word vast isnt completely wrong.

I may be assuming, but seeing how there's a tonnnn of kids games in the market are you telling me that there's not really alot of kid gamers?  Speaking of another thing, girl gamers; alot of girls dont have big hands either.

So to the make point of our discussion, how does increasing the size of a controller help gamers of ALL ages and sex overall?

Im not saying im right but that's how im seeing it unless you can change my perspective.  Thanks for this debate tho its fun ^___^

As well i would like to see this article about the majority of gamers being +35, just cause without it your truth is just as good as mine.

Is Sony creative enough to change the DS3’s design and not make another boomerang?
I mean Sony fans have had the same control design for three generations with some few new stuff added. It is still not very comfortable to play with for very long. They should seriously add some girth to it so you get a better grip!

What do think about this? Will you be ok with another copy past controller or do you want a more comfortable one?

For YOU.

For the majority, the PS3's controller is great.

As the saying goes...

"if it ain't broke....You'd be a fool to step in dog turd."
