Forums - Gaming - LittleBigPlanet OMG!

Man o' man!!! So much skepticism here XD I'm so disappointed in all of you :P So many people in here are trashing something thats attempting to be imaginative, yet everyone praises Mario and Sonic at the Olympics, which got mediocre ratings, was a mis-mash of random mini-games, and featured two notorious characters from platforming genre's never before seen in the same game, and stuck them in a sports setting. Shame on you all!!!

@Garcian, thank god for leader boards eh? So at least those of us that pretend were above developers can have a chance at proving that ;) Some of the best mods created for video games are created by users. Have some faith please.

I personally think the art direction is gorgeous! It's got such a surrealistic and artistic feel to it, I find it truely inspiring to game development. The platforming could use some work it seems (or the players just suck XD), but other than that I think it's a wonderfull concept and I HOPE it sells well.

I read a post on gametrailers that had said something to the effect of, "Seems like an awful lot of work to play through a level that only takes like 30 seconds to get through."

I couldn't agree more with this statement. I think this game has a novelty and newness to it, but in the end it will be repetitive, and same old thing over and over. Custamize a level, play through it in 30 seconds. Custamize a level play through it in 30 seconds. Download a level, play through it in 30 seconds.

I think the game will sell moderately well. The game is certainly innovative and different, but for me, I just don't get it.

I can't find sales data for SSHD, but even then, trying to compare a full-priced title to a budget downloadable one in terms of sales is sort of fallacious.

Also, were there any 2D titles last gen that sold AAA-caliber numbers?

Nothing has been final regarding LittleBigPlanet: It could cost full price, and it could come out both online and on disk, a la Warhawk.

Also, there haven't been many, as you put it, "niche" games on the PS3 that have come out on disk.

I never said anything about AAA status; this is regarding what you deem a "flop" with regards to LittleBigPlanet, and most certainly, there were a few 2D games last gen that can't be deemed a flop. If by flop you mean "won't sell 2-4 million," then I agree, but I see this game at least reaching a million in sales, which would hardly make it a flop.

Ok I'm not quite sure where your going with this? First off I'd like to inform you that some people "Like" building. Part of the charm in this game is creating yoru own unique levels, would you like Lego's to come pre-constructed? How about Sim City where it all comes created for you :D LAME

This is about your immagination at "work", if it looks boring to you, we obviously don't want your content. Besides, with the way they have it all set up, you can play through other people's bizzare creations. And yes, they are ranked by awesomness :P

 QFE

This is exactly how I feel.  As other have said, the game looks pretty "meh" to me, but I can see how many would like it.  I'm sure I'd have a ball playing with a few friends if they owned it, but I won't be the one to buy it and convince them.

If the community doesn't pick it up and push out a lot of variety in levels I can see it getting old pretty quickly due to the fact that its "an awful lot of work to [build] a level that only takes like 30 seconds to get through."

@ TheDjib: Depending solely on people other than the developers to make content for your game is bound to lead to disappointment.

No, Super Smash Brothers Melee sold like ass.

I just watched the "fire" demo. For me this is so lame. This is supposed to be a race, and yet if you are "winning" you remain stuck on the right hand side of the screen waiting for everyone to catch up. That is lame.

Basicly you can jerk of the entire level, get teleported in right at the end, slap a few folks and win. Would mario kart be fun if you could do that. Would madden be fun, or any other game be fun if you could do that. I don't get it.

Like I said, the game is innovative, and I think will sell moderately well. In the end though, I think people will ask themselves sometime later, "Exactly why did I buy this game again?" "Oh, yeah, I know why, because its going to save the PS3, just like lair, heavenly sword, and all those other great games did."

Okay, for those of us older than 12, we know there is much more to a game than winning >_> Who even said this was a race??? I plan on building levels that require 4 player co-operation, the goal is to finish the damn thing, not beat everyone to the punch. The levels are set up in whatever direction you want to take them. If your obsessed with having a winner, then maybe you should try something a little more direct. I don't think a game based on creativity is your thing.

cant wait for this game. Doubters are retards.

Name calling skills are something I always like to see in forum moderator. Nothing says 'I won't abuse my power' better.

Regardless of how good/bad the game will be, I doubt it'll sell well.

It will sell well for sure. Not only will it sell well but it will also be a system mover for ALL regions.

Here at work almost everyone wants a PS3 for this game. If you don't believe me, just show the LBP videos to your (gamer) friends and watch their reaction. It's instant love for 90% of the people (assuming they are not xbots)... read comments in different forums (n4g, ign, etc), even here at VGC. This game is so creative ...

PS: But it will be really hard to track sales since it will be a PSN download / Blu-ray, just like Warhawk.

PSN ID: krik

Optimistic predictions for 2008 (Feb 5 2008): Wii = 20M, PS3 = 14M, X360 = 9.5M

The people playing seem to be struggling with the controls.

It's probably going to be a cult hit (with a long lasting level building community), but I'm doubtful that it will have mainstream success.
