Being that their profits are so high, and their margins are higher than oil companies, I expect to see congress calling for a windfall profit tax on Apple any day now ...

Nah, calls for windfall taxes tend to only be on those companies that aren't favoured well by the public and press. Windfall taxes seem to be more about winning votes and less about generating revenue.

EDIT: Actually, thinking about it, that tends to be the case for the majority of tax policies.

I know, I was mostly being sarcastic ...

I don't really understand it, but (for some reason) oil companies seem to be hated by almost everyone; and, in almost every way, face a double standard from the public.

android is not a compnay and google already reported and its numbers were not impressive:

For what i know Andoird is destroying Iphone is sales week in, wekk out.

Google brags that Android device activations are around 700,000 per day.

iOS device sales over the holiday quarter were around 680,000 per day.

The two platforms are growing at about the same pace, but there's a big difference in how those platforms are being used and much money they're generating.

Yeah, I know from your posting history that your head's screwed on when it comes to this stuff, so the post actually surprised me a bit. It's a shame sarcasm doesn't translate well through reading alone.

Oil companies are hated because people, nowadays, believe that they're entitled to everything (thanks to, let's be honest, politicians and the media). Oil companies produce so much that people need that they seem to think that we should get this stuff for free, we don't, and so they hate the companies. Bang this in with inflationary pressures causing costs to go up, and people not understanding the cause of this, and the whole environmental movement, you get the perfect hate-soup, so to speak.

Apple phenomenon is probably thing that I will never fully unterstand. Yes they make quality products and it's not surprising to see them sell well but really that well? 36 million people spent almost $700 dollars to own a phone? Not to mention that competition makes great phones also. Damn.

yes 50% buy it just because they like it and 50% buy it because they have to be so cool and they can't be so cool with another product...really just seeing some of my workmates they don't need it and they don't even have money for it but they buy every new iphone just because they think they have to do it to be a part of our society or shit like that and how often do they tell people without an iphone "you don't even have an iphone we are something better" loool

apple got the best customers you can wish for, people who buy everything from you just vbecause they wish to be "in"

i have no problem with apple but wit many apple customers who don't buy it for themselve they only buy it because they think they have to to be part of their friends, part of the society or whatever...so many of them don't have money, they don't know how to buy something to eat the last day of the month but yeah they have to have an iphone...unbelievable.

And just to put things in perspective, Apple has enough cash to buy every single console released this gen so far (assuming their median value is below $400), or acquire with a 50% plus all of Nintendo and Sony put together.

Man...

My biggest beef with Apple is two folds :
- relatively to their revenue they do not generate a lot of jobs.
- they are sitting on one of the biggest cash pile of this era, at a time where most are cash strapped ( individuals or governments) and they don't redistribute that cash so all that profit that they make doesn't benefit anyone...( gimme dividends, come on..)

So basically you have the case of an hypersuccessfull and hyperhuge company that doesn't have much of an effect on the economy at large...

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !

Wow, insane numbers. I guess there was a lot of pent up demand for the new iPhone. There previous record was like 20 million iPhones! Over 15 million iPads as well up 111% from last year!

The iPhone 4S wasn't that much of an upgrade to existing iPhone 4 users, like myself, though the extra features like the A5 and Siri were definitely compelling, so I had no reason to upgrade. For others like my friend and his wife who had the 3G, upgrading was like night and day for them. I didn't think much of Siri myself until I saw it in action.

starcraft: "I and every PS3 fanboy alive are waiting for Versus more than FFXIII.
Me since the games were revealed, the fanboys since E3."

Skeeuk: "playstation 3 is the ultimate in gaming acceleration"

Congrats to apple. Their products have come a long way.

I mean...My MacBook air runs windows 7 like a champ, iTunes no longer hijacks my computer very time I launch it, they make pretty good smartphones that have lots of apps...etc

omg i didn't know that, there's really no dividend? wtf seriously?

microsoft has like 10 billion shares and they give i believe 50 cent or so

hmm.. that's a good indicator of how overpriced their products and underpayed their workers are
