Forums - Microsoft - Rumor: Xbox 3 Development Kits Heading Out In March/April

LOL there is no way the Xbox 3 will be running 7000 series ATI hardware. Its not even feesable. If development kits are going out now, then they've been working on the architecture and customising the GPU for a good 12 months, making it 6000 series at the most...

Of course you are making the simple logic fault here that MS has simply been waiting until the 7xxx series is finished and then jumped into a customising phase. Since MS decided to go with AMD architecture again long ago (an obvious choice), the next XBox GPU is a custom design parallel to the 7xxx series develpment. Just don't expect to see a 79xx chip (>210 Watts, 350mm^2 at 28nm) or a 78xx chip (>140 Watts, 250(?)mm^2 at 28nm) in the next XBox.

Rumors said the big devs like Ubi and EA allready have them.

Guess this rumor is for the rest of the 3rd parties.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

I've been predicting a 2013 release for a long time. The game line-up for 2012 is simply too strong to launch against. I'm guessing Autumn 2013. However I suppose it could potentially be earlier in the year. Not sure when they would announce and show it though. Announcing at E3 2013, then launching in the Autumn would make sense.

Personally I am 100% ready for the next gen. This gen has definitely started to lose some of it's shine. Ready to see things move on and what can be done. We have hit a nice point this gen where most of the trilogies that started have finished or are finishing. Uncharted, Gears of War, mass effect, assassins creed etc.

Turkish says and I'm allowed to quote that: Uncharted 3 and God Of War 3 look better than Unreal Engine 4 games will or the tech demo does. Also the Naughty Dog PS3 ENGINE PLAYS better than the UE4 ENGINE.

A console with 7000 series ATI Gpu would run every game for the next 5 years in 5760 x 1080p on 3 screens at once with full AA, without breaking a sweat. It'd also be the size of a server case to keep the damn thing cool. I call shenanigans on all this BS.

Yes, if all future games in the coming 5 years would be developed on current gen game engines (UE3 from 2006 and CryEngine from 2007/9). But most games in next gen will be developed on not yet released game engines who are able to push much more polygons, higher res textures and more advanced graphical effects.

Resolution is only a small factor to determine the overall quality of graphics.

but but i thought they were launching 2012?? this thead is alot quiter than i thought it would be.

I agree. This thread should have more comments than that other one. Between IGN's rumor and this rumor, I would be much happier if this one was true. This one also makes more sense to me. If the next xbox is only 6 times more powerful than this current gen, than we won't be seeing as noticeable of a ump in graphics as we normally do. I really hope that Microsoft doesn't start focusing on the casual market/kinect instead.
