Megaupload recently started a service which sold music directly from artists to people without the middleman.

Really? Then that totally is the main reason for it getting hunted down by the "old men".

I found a source.

Sad for people who use those sites to download unlicensed and/or out of print materials. That being said, sites like megaupload doesnt do enough in regard to copyrighted material.

99% of those sites uses were for illegal movies and music sharing, the issue is that there's no legal alternative to enjoy movies and music with affordable prices, In France that's 5-10 euros per movie you want to watch in VOD, that's far too expensive for a big portion of the French when you're barely able to pay the rent and energy and eat correctly. There's no real steal as it is virtual and no money is lost as we would not buy at such prices. Movies have to be charged 0.10 to 0.50 euros not 5 to 10 euros. Majors are just runed by stupid avid people.

5$ to rent a movie is a pretty cheap activity.

i use these sites as much as the next guy, but whats the problem people really have with these going down? sure it makes it inconvenient for people like me to get stuff but its not like these sites were in the right

They were in the right though that is the problem.  So was megaupload.  Megaupload only had a 10% piracy rate.  That means 90% of the files on Megaupload WERE LEGAL.  To be honest, I've only downloaded user created content from megaupload and almost everyone I know has done the same.  From my past experience and reporting copyright files to megaupload I've noticed that they take them down QUITE QUICKLY.  There is some inside reason that megaupload was taken down.  It obviously wasn't created as an attempt to conspiricise to piracy.  That is a complete lie by the U.S government.  I hope megaupload wins their court case.  Megaupload was never created for piracy.  Heck, even Kanye West and other people including Actors supported it.  The Media companies are killing America.

Megaupload recently started a service which sold music directly from artists to people without the middleman.

Also I think it won't take long before similar service emerges in coutries which aren't so concerned about IP laws - Vietnam, China, Russia, some islands you never heard about.

Really now?  So the ARTIST ACTUALLY MAKES MONEY.  NO WAY.  That is the problem, the Artist nowadays make nothing where as Big record labels, etc make too much money.  Sad industry.  Megaupload wanted to fix that and they get shut down.

Are you competing with RIAA/MPAA on who pull the most appalling numbers?
