"Sony’s gaming division might have a small showing at this year’s CES, but that isn’t keep Paul Purdy from dropping some big PS3 news:  in-game Xross Media Bar (XMB) access is confirmed for 2008.  When pressed for a date or timeframe with more solidarity, the Sony rep countered with a "no further comments" and left us praying that the long-awaited feature will release sooner rather than later.

For those not aware, the PS3’s operating system is unavailable while in games.  This prevents the use of custom soundtracks or messenging while a game is active, and since the Xbox 360 offers its users both while in-game, PS3 owners have been justifiably frustrated.

Great news. Wasn't this expected, since you can jump straight into a game from Home, without exiting Home?

In-game chat is the only thing that comes with in-game XMB that I really care about, unless they allow me to stream music from my pc while playing.

thats awesome! I'll be glad when that gets here! it will hopefully allow us to actually invite friends to games conveniently, send messages, etc without having to quit the game! I also can't wait for Home, gonna be sweet.

as long as its out before Killzone 2, or the same time I don't care.
