Wow what a waste of money. My bluetooth headset can do the exact same thing.

Take your headset out of your ear and put it across the room and see how good the voice recognition is now.

Why would you do that...? Surely the whole point of a headset is...you wear it...on your head....no?

I am sure you are aiming to show the strengths of Kinect by your arguement but I feel it's just creating problems where there aren't any.

Do not stress on Kinect. It is just optional use lol

Ok buddy. The kinect hate train stops here.

You claim we can do this with headsets. Cool story. People here allready disproved you by saying that Kinect makes voice recognition easier. Also its headset free, as you dont have to put on a physical accessory to play games. Thats another plus of kinect.

Also, if you can do this with a headset or not is irrelevant......as I dont see headset functionality with the PS3. So dont discuss hypotheticals unless its relevant.

This finctionality is OPTIONAL, an experiment. So I dont understand these complaints.

Seems the obvious reason for these complaints is that this is a 360 exclusive feature and the convienence of not using the power wheel, hence having completely uninteruppted gameplay on the 360 version, gives it a clear edge on the PS3 version.

This thus breeds sensitivity. If your a PS3 loyal, just let it out there and be yourself. Dont hide.

I'm still calling Bullshit on this, on the grounds that headsets exists!

Also this is a good point, I fail to see why the standard 360 headset does not have this functionality.

Kinect contains hardware that aids voice command interpretation. If it was to be done through a headset, the developer would have to invest a lot more in creating solid voice recognition, than is required with Kinect.

Seeing as I can do voice work with my 1998 headset that came with my teach yourself GCSE French, I think it's safe to say Kinect is not the kingpin on this front. I'm sorry to say but I feel this is obviously a marketing ploy for Kinect.

When this feature was announced at E3, Gametrailers asked the MS guy (can never remember his name, Mr smiley, the one who does the E3 presentations) if it was really necessary to use Kinect on the grounds that headsets exists. The guy admitted it was necessary to use Kinect but they still wanted to.

You can do voice commands with almost any kind of microphone, it's just a matter of how much effort you want to put into it. Kinect is built in such a way that voice commands are easy to use in a game.

Proof can be found here:

"Mass Effect executive producer Casey Hudson says BioWare is bringing voice commands to Kinect and Xbox 360 because Microsoft's sound and motion-sensing controller is doing the hard work of voice recognition. Kinect's internal hardware is what makes it possible—or at least much easier to get voice commands working—not just its microphones."

I've only seen the voice part in action and that's not necessary if they are adding gestures as well that's a different story.

Do you just not read what is posted? it clearly states that kinect is doing the processing of the voice commands, ie all the work is being done on kinect and not the 360, thus not affecting the amount of cpu/ram/processing power thatthey can use for the game. Not to mention kinect is already designed and set up for voice commands so that the dev has to do little to no work. No need to make their own algorithms for voice reconition or to pay to use someone elses. Will the ps3 version have voice commands as well?

microsoft is injecting money in this just to sell kinect lol
like someone said this existed in gaming ages ago

yes because so many previous games have had voice commands. While it may have exsisted before, ms is making it a standard that can be acheived on more games with more ease.

At what time did I mention the ps3?

Why does everyone assume that if a person has a complaint about something they are obviously a fanboy of the counterpart.

I've been championing Kinect since Day One so you can go suck on a lemon right there.

I'm a fan of Kinect but I don't feel using it for voice work is gonna be as "tough" to implement as they are making it out to be (considering Mattick already said the voice stuff would have worked just as well with a headset). But considering they are talking about motion stuff as well, that changes things.

I'm a fan of the PS3 yes, but that has nothing to do with my skepticism,  at no time did I mention the ps3 or whatever. If this was a 360 exclusive GAME not even FEATURE I would be saying the same thing.

If the Kinect was on the ps3 and the tables were turned, I would be saying the same thing the fact that you are so quick to call "fanboy" raises questions about your standpoint so chillout.

I'm sure you'll be using the voice commands to the fullest then...they looked sluggish in the E3 demo and don't add anything but slower responses.

headset voice command functionality. you know what the thread is about. Can you use that headset for the voice commands on ME3 for ps3?

half the point (the other half being motion) of kinect is to make it easy to implement voice controls so devs dont have to do the work. so if your a fan of kinect you should be happy its being utilized just as intended instead of complaing that it can be done with headsets. when apparently it isn't being done that way on the ps3 so kinect must make a difference. What about the pc version? does it have voice commands?

Just saying more often the not a complaint about Kinect and 360 has some underlying bias towards its biggest rival. You claim to be an exception the so be it.

However the fact remains that this functionality is headset free, optional, and works really well according to the impressions.

There is absolutely no reason to complain given those 3 points. And yet here we are.
