I felt the same way about tablets in general until I bought a cheap Android 2.3 tablet for reading comics. Shortly thereafter, I sold it and bought an iPad. As a content creator, I could never replace a computer with a tablet but the tablet is a great carry-around device for reading, browsing, and gaming. It's a fantastic device and mine gets a ton of use.
But it's really easy to understand the success of iOS devices. The iPhone completely revolutionized the smartphone market and was the first consumer-friendly device on the market (and I owned two Blackberries and a Windows Mobile phone before my first iPhone). The form factor, capacitive touchscreen, and the App Store completely changed how we think about mobile computing. The iPad is merely an extension of that idea, creating a tweener product that slots in nicely between computers and phones.
Without Apple and iOS, the mobile computing industry would be miles behind where it is today. Apple deserves every bit of success they've had over the past ten years. No company has done as much for computing in the 21st century as they have (and that's not even mentioning their Mac line).

Regardless of when it comes, it sounds like the next ipad will have some nice specs. Good for Apple fans and those looking into a tablet.
