When we discussed the idea of OnLive having a partnership between Microsoft and Sony regarding integration with their next-gen consoles we knew it was something well worth considering. Now with the latest news of Google TVs coming with Xbox 360/PS3 graphics built-in, could this be the catalyst in making the former idea more of a reality?

We say this because the thought of Google TV offering console-like graphics is surely something Microsoft and Sony should worry about, as it shows the rivals are starting to think out off the box in ways to help improve the gaming experience without the need to own a console. Okay, in most cases they will need a special TV to do this, but if you were in the market for a new Television, why not spend just a little extra to give you so much more?

The OnLive cloud gaming service will be coming to all Google TVs, which will give them instant on-demand gameplay – a service that is growing in popularity all the time. Having seen the service in action for ourselves during Eurogamer in London last year, it’s easy to see why the service has been gaining traction so quickly.

Not only will OnLive gameplay be coming to Google TVs, but also Blu-ray players and Media Streamers powered by Google TV. This will mean most of the big TV makers will soon be able to have access to this sought after service. Now we know it will be a long time before most gamers are convinced by cloud gaming like this, but when game titles improve surely the conception will also?

Having said that, OnLive already offers over 200 game titles, such as Saints Row: The Third, Batman: Arkham City, Assassin’s Creed Revelations, NBA 2K12 and many more. You can see the first game on this list in action below on the cloud gaming service, which will help dispel any fears you have regarding the quality.

If you still have any misconceptions, then maybe knowing more than 50 game publishers, as well as those who work on consoles have signed up to support OnLive. With this in mind you can rest assured of even more titles coming to the service, which can only mean a better gaming service.

Google TV and its partnership with OnLive is considered a huge step for videogames, as the streaming of such games will soon be like some of the others services we rely on today, such as movies, videos and music.

Yay!!!

Sony was one of the co-developers of Google TV. I'm sure they wouldn't have put so much into it if they thought it would be a threat to the PS3.

Also, Google TV is doing horribly. The reviews are awful and Logitech dropped out on the product because they were starting to lose millions. It's been out for over a year and has zero traction. Unless its fortunes have changed in the last couple of months, I don't see how its a threat to anything.

Who would buy a TV with the Google logo on it.

Bet with gooch_destroyer, he wins if FFX and FFX-2 will be at $40 each for the vita. I win if it dont

I currently own many droids/Tablets and WP7's.

I do not see any game that rivals Console Graphics.

Arcade download XBL/Arcade games yes, Console graphics no, sorry but no.

Yes games look fantastic on y 5inch screen, move to tablet and your still good, move those graphics to my 42inch HD, pushing it, move it to my 61inch, Nope, sorry. (VIA Xoom to TV function)

Devs make apps for the masses, there are not nearly enough Google TV's on the market for Devs to make the decision to push for larger apps with large graphic capabilities.

Then comes depth, there are very few Droid games with depth.  You have a few games with amazing graphics but very few maps, almost a demo in console terms when it comes down to it.  Again, not enough of a Google TV install base to make an impact for larger games.

Smart Phone games are made for, quick turn on and play, sitting on the toilet, stuck in the DMV Quick Gameplay.

Ya I play Onlive on my Tablet and Phones but you need a good connection to use it, and not everyone has 4G LTE, and 4G LTE will not be good for another year, heck maybe two before everyone on every carrier gets it, and it will be at least 3 years before 4G LTE covers current 3G coverage.  People are not going to buy Google Apps that they can only play on their Google TV and not phone, I mean thats what their console is for.

With that said:

Prices are going up for apps, prices are going up for phones, prices are going up for connections, and limits are coming to carriers, meaning you get charged for even downloading some of these games because they are becoming large, but most of the large files are due to cut scenes and audio..  (I have unlimited) but now almost all carriers will have limit to their network and coming in the next couple years, your going to start seeing a decline in smart phones sales, and this will because of the carriers and companies charging so much for products that only last a few months before apps don't evne work on your phone because it's out of date.

It's like the PC, average people bought a PC to handle the game they currently play, then realize that new games comes out and they have to upgrade, now a few months later they have to spend more money, same will happen with the smart phone market.

12 months ago I could get a smart phone for $99 with a 1 year contract, if you want to play today's games it will cost you $249.99 & a two year contract.  Carriers noticed that more people started to buy smart phones outright for a whopping $500+ for a smart phone to stay off contract and decided to try and make up for it.

I wanna puke all over this article for treating graphics as the measuring stick for console quality games.

Onlive is already in android and ios. That means their tv offerings will have all major 3rd party content. However, they won't have first party and varied home internet will continue to keep consoles in most people's homes.

it now has the latest android, has very good reviews, and logitech is making new devices and doing just fine.

there is a reason all those new google tvs were at ces from just about every company.

The fact that this is the first time I hear of Google TV tells me I shouldn't be worried.

No troll is too much for me to handle. I rehabilitate trolls, I train people. I am the Troll Whisperer.

No mention of the Wii? It's so bad that it's not qualified of the "WORRIED"

quick question: with onlive on iOS, can you use an iphone and an apple tv together to put Onlive on your tv if its running on your iphone?

because if you can, I think that is a much bigger threat, I've seen quite a few people interested in apple tv's compared with none in google tv's :/
