Looking back at the first installment of SAO animation the amount of hate it received was uncalled for ...

I liked SAO when i first watched it. It does action well. Then it rewatched and saw how many things it does stupidly. Things like "beater" and Yui and such. It's like the writer had barely played any games and just treated it as a fantasy with bullshit rules. Most of the females were pretty bad. Asuna turned really bad in the second half. The second half was terrible. So many things wrong with it. And it goes excessive with fanservice as well which doesn't fit the story it tries to tell

How do I say this ... If your expecting the novel to be any better then be also prepared to be dissappointed since the anime faithfully adapts almost everything from it. It's true that Asuna was mostly annoying in the second half but you can't exactly say that she was useless in that part due to her contributing by giving the pass to kirito to be able to access a restricted area. As far as excessive fanservice goes there was only 5 or so ecchi moments in the whole adaption. If anything High school of the dead is probably worse in terms of fanservice.

Kill la kill was a fun watch. Didn't enjoyed at first but things picked upped fast in the 2nd half. 7/10 XD

I'm not expecting the novels to be much better. the series was just written terribly. Your example of why Asuna isn't useless is another example of SAO's terribleness. It uses Deus ex Machina a whole lot. Heck beating the second half was Deus Ex Machina ON BOTH SIDES. And its problem with fanservice is that it tries to fit it in when it doesn't need to and the show wasn't about it. There are a lot of animes with more fanservice thsn SAO but stuff like HotD often fall in the so bad that its good. It doesn't try to trick you into fanservice. You are supposed to expect it when you see those character designs.

If it's written so badly as you thought then why do so many acknowledge it ?

@Bold If you consider 2 being too much then I'm not sure of what you think about the rest of the mainstream animes.

Sure the show doesn't need fanservice but your obviously over exaggerating the issue since it's only shown 5 times through out the whole installment. I don't think SAO was meant to be a fanservice but it DOES take itself seriously more often than not so you can't categorize it as ecchi.

Wait a minute, I'm supposed to expect crap like that because of CHARACTER DESIGNS ?

Many acknowledge Justin Bieber but that doesn't excuse for being a bad person and musician. The 1st episode draws people in well and then the action scenes keep people's attention. Places like GAF hated it when it aired. That it does well. I could write a long report on explaining why SAO is bad. There isn't just 2 Deus Ex Machinas, there are several. A lot of the stuff Kirito does is explained through just being Kirito.

Also, I don't particularly like long running anime.

On the last part yes. If you see several big boobed girls, expect the show to be ecchi. That's the rule almost 100% of the time. And the quality of ecchi anime aside from fanservice is usually low. In fact, generic art/CGI for anime tends to also hint poorer quality.

Then how exactly is quality determined then ? It can't be a bunch of critics seeing as how their standards have a lot of biases. Leave the author out of it for christs sake. We're supposed to judge the work itself instead of the originator. Who cares about what GAF think! I want to know how the general populace feels about it. Not some forum groups who does nothing but bitch about. You could write a long report but you wouldn't exactly have enough substance to say that it's truly bad. There was only 2 deux ex machinas as far as I can recall so unless you can give evidence for the other fights being rigged because of the author's writing then you don't have a case. It's as simple as that.

Just because you have some girls in the animation that has a somewhat large bust size doesn't mean that it can't be taken seriously. Take for an instance revy from black lagoon. There's almost no ecchi moments I can think of yet revy is still a somewhat badass fighter despite the fact that she has a noticeably above average bosoms while being a main character. The term "fanservice" is very vague which can mean practically anything to please the audience.

My biggest gripes with alot of animes mostly stems from the fact that the studio's don't take them COMPLETELY seriously and instead resort to making comic reliefs more funny which usually ends up with bad results in a scene. I seriously don't understand japanese humor ...

Kill la Kill was good, despite not having the strongest plot, and some pacing issues. Also Nudist Beach was hyped up but was useless in the end. It was an enjoyable show overall.

Also Kill la Kill graced us with what is the greatest villain theme.

Did Kill La Kill end already?

Absolutely!

Ok, since all the anime that I was watching is over, I need some recommendations from you guys on what to see now, I watch almost anything that is good and short, so keep suggestions to series that are 13 chapters long or less. Tell me the name of the show, why should I see it and the name of a popular series that I could compare it to. Thanks in advance.

13 episodes? Madoka Magica. You may have already seen it, but if not...

Watch it because it has a really great story. It's a magical girl show, but takes a turn for the depressing around episode 3-4, and it's just very compelling throughout. Also Gen Urobuchi penned it, so yeah...

I don't know what to compare it to as I don't watch magical girl shows, and I don't know if there are any really serious ones like Madoka.

Well it does not have to be 13 episodes exactly, but a short series so that is a good lenght for me.

I have not seen Madoka Magica, so I will add it to my list, thanks for your suggestion.

I can take 1 or 2 more options, but not more, because I have a limited amount of free time.
