Forums - General - Nintendo 3DS beats PlayStation Vita in battery test

Mine last 3 hours!!! Mine last 4 hours!!! Who really cares it? It isn't that big of difference whatever video you are trying to support. Both systems don't last over 5 hours on max setting is all that needs to be known.

The 3DS would outlast the Vita by a much larger margin at maximum settings.

Vita dies at like 2 hours. Still get about 4 hours from 3DS.

Bullshit. I don't really need to say why, go and look it up for yourself.

Derpity derp derp, no it's not. You go look it up.

Vita sucks. :D

Well VITA doesn't suck overall but the battery doesn't seem to be as good as the 3DS's.

I probably have mine set right in the middle. Sometimes when I am looking at a particularly pretty scene  I will push it on full power, but that is not too often.  Also mine is usually plugged into the wall, so it matters little.

Yea, I have to charge my 3DS a lot when I put some heavy use on it.  I remember I had to charge it twice in a day a few times from playing it so much.  If the 3DS "lite" can have it last 6-7 hours with max settings then that would be amazing.

I guess it's not black and white. Depending on your settings, and what you're playing, you can get a lot of playtime or very little playtime from your 3DS, With optional Wi-Fi, five brightness settings (in my opinion, five is TOO high. It's like looking into the sun!), and a power save mode, it's not as easy as setting the console and letting it run. I've played my 3DS for six hours one day (admitting that some of that was playing Advance Wars Dual Strike and older games) and the battery indicator still was blue.

Don't know much about the Vita yet. I just feel that, at its best, the 3DS will be better and at its worst, the 3DS will be the worst.

Not unexpected. More background stuff going on in Vita. Now if you could shut the OS off...

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Someone needs to do more controlled tests before I come to that conclusion.

Who are you talking to? If me, then yes, the 3DS's battery lasts more than 4 hours.

SO basically the test was PSVIA vs DS since the 3d was turned off. The whole point of the 3DS is the 3d. It should have been kept on.

I was walking down along the street and I heard this voice saying, "Good evening, Mr. Dowd." Well, I turned around and here was this big six-foot rabbit leaning up against a lamp-post. Well, I thought nothing of that because when you've lived in a town as long as I've lived in this one, you get used to the fact that everybody knows your name.

fork that ship, i'd rather play on my 3DS for 3 hours with 3DS turned on and energy saver mode off, instead of cutting down stuffz.

I'm a Foreigner, and as such, i am grateful for everyone pointing out any mistakes in my english posted above - only this way i'll be able to improve. thank you!

That was one test. At the minimum settings test, the PS Vita was fairly close, the 3DS lasted just over 20% longer. But what about maximum settings? Rolstoppable pointed out that I overlooked the speaker and wi-fi power consumption, but still, the biggest drain on power are screens. What's going to consume more power? Two LCD screens, one of which is 3D, or an OLED screen? I can't find any data on the power consumption of the Vita and 3DS screens, but OLED screens usually consume a quarter of the power of LCD screens, let alone two of them, one of which is 3D.

If you crank up the backlight, the 3DS's battery life is going to take a significant hit, while the Vita's will only take a small hit. If you compare minimum and maximum backlight on both systems, as well as 3D on and off, I think the 3DS will last longer on minimum settings but the PS Vita will last longer on maximum settings. I have no idea how they will perform with wi-fi turnd on and speakers turned up, so like I said before, I want to see more comparisons first.
