Forums - General - Nintendo 3DS beats PlayStation Vita in battery test

The 3DS's main selling point was that it provided glasses-free 3D. I'm sure the 3DS can muster a decent battery life with the 3D turned off, but that's an unfair comparison.

Both systems have pitiful battery life anyways. Give me the Gameboy Color wih two AA batteries any day.

Those were the good old days, I could get so many hours out of my Gameboy Color never having to worry about power when playing Pokemon...

Aren't you suspicious in the least?

Suspicous? How?

Maybe that was the wrong word. What I meant is don't you think the second video could be manipulated to get a more favorable result?

The minimum settings for the 3DS lead to a battery life of about five hours in the first video. We know that this holds true from the countless tests during its launch period. From those tests we also know that everything put at max reduces the 3DS's battery life to just above two and a half hours which can be seen in the second video.

I see no reason to believe that the first video involves any tricks. The second one, on the other hand, is suspicious. Do the PS Vita and PSP really run at max settings just like the 3DS next to them? The PSP is irrelevant for this thread, so let's focus on the Vita. Is it feasible that a system running at full sound, full brightness and with wi-fi enabled still lasts almost as long as with everything on minimum? You can talk about OLED screens as long as you want, but wi-fi is really a drain on the battery in all portable devices.

Oh, never really thought of that. I think it's more suspicious that the PSP lasted 9 hours to be honest.

I thought your first post was serious. 17 minutes sounds about right for the difference between maximum and minimum brightness on an OLED screen, I'm unsure about power consumption from the speakers, but in the video, Wi-fi wasn't being used in the PSP the PSP doesn't have wi-fi and I don't think it was being used in the other consoles either.

The guy from the first video should do another test using the same games he did in his first.

EDIT: I understand why you replied to me now. I can assure you, it was just my enthusiasm about OLED screens, I wasn't trying to troll the 3DS.

There's something fishy about that test because neither the 3DS or the PSVITA have that low of bettery life.

Yeah the 3D is turned up and the brightness is at maximum that the reason why 3DS turned off first. Falst comparision here.

But my 3DS gets way more time with screen brightness on 4 and 3D on...

Yeah mines too maybe this person did something to make it runs out faster. Or he put back in the charger for the PSP or vita since the background is all black hard to tell.

Like I said, the 3DS ran with everything on and at max in the second video, because it lasted just as long as in all the tests from different websites last March. That is the one thing we can say for sure.

It's even possible that both the Vita and PSP ran at minimum settings in the second video. For the Vita it's a difference of only 17 minutes between the two videos, a difference that could be explained by the game it is running.

EDIT: It's not about trolling the 3DS, its battery life is bad any way you look at it. It's about believing everything you see without questioning it.

Not sure about minimum, the PSP has its Wi-fi off for sure though. With the PSP's Wi-fi, it can't just be connected in the background, you need to be either playing online or downloading for the Wi-fi to boot up. It's probably the same for the Vita.

The only way we will know for certain is when someone posts a video comparison using the same games.

I thought you thought I was "suspicious" because of my first comment that I ended up editing. It looked like I was trolling the 3DS, when I was just excited about the OLED screen in the Vita. As for believing everything I see, I didn't really compare the second video or pay attention to the times, I got 17 minutes from your post, which I thought was a serious one.

EDIT: Only just noticed, both videos are from the same guy.

This test shows simply the batteries are good enough for a normal session. But I'd like more power.

The 3DS would outlast the Vita by a much larger margin at maximum settings.

Vita dies at like 2 hours. Still get about 4 hours from 3DS.

Bullshit. I don't really need to say why, go and look it up for yourself.

Derpity derp derp, no it's not. You go look it up.

Vita sucks. :D

my 3ds lasts 4 hours but thats probly because i have the 3d to the max

There's also a video with the vita lasting longer than the 3DS with similar low settings. These videos will never be indicative of anything other than both devices having mediocre battery life.
