Forums - General - The Conspiracy Theory Thread - This week: Lunar Conspiracy Theories

Everyone loves a good conspiracy theory - and I've got knowledge of a wide range of them to discuss with you - I'll be making a new one of these every week. :)

I'll post up the facts, and then you have to make your own decision on the matter. This week, I want to talk about a matter that many people have opinions on, as it is a matter of national pride and something that many people on both sides get very passionate about. I am, of course, talking about conspiracies regarding the moon landing in 1969.

However, everyone knows about the most common conspiracy (ie. they never actually landed on the moon), so I'm going to let you discuss that one, while I'm going to throw out some alternative conspiracies that are just as interesting for additional discussion :)

- At around 238,655 miles away, the moon is Earth's closest neighbour, and so has become a source of many conspiracies.

- Some theorists believe that the moon landing did occur, but that isn't the real conspiracy.

- One of the most popular is the Moon Structures theory - the idea that when astronauts first landed on the moon, they were greeted with pre-built structures. According to researcher Richard Hoagland, NASA has known about these structures for some time, and they were built by aliens.

- Conspiracy theories believe that NASA tries to hide these by obsessively doctoring images taken by satallites and spaceships.

- Some believe that when NASA's astronauts made it to the moon, they witnessed UFOs during their journeys. Evidence for this is often attributed to the use of the term "Santa Claus" by the astronauts, which is thought to be a code word for UFOs.

- Why would they have seen UFOs near the moon? Some believe that there are secret lunar bases on the moon built by aliens, or even the ruins of an ancient civilisation.

- Theorists also claim that astronauts such as Neil Armstrong have confirmed one or more of their beliefs.

- Naturally, skeptics claim these theories are rubbish - after all, if there was alien life on the moon, how could NASA hide it effectively. And even if they could, why would they do it? Theorists respond to these with a variety of theories - the most common of these being that the world's elite repress this knowlege to maintain their global control over the common man.

- This argument between skeptics and theorists has been going on for decades, since it's very hard to prove one way or the other that it is the case.

What do you think? Is the moon just a grey rock devoid of life? Or something more? And of course, did NASA successfully get man to land on the moon back in 1969? Feel free to debate that more well known (and arguably more plausable) theory in this thread too :)

Have fun!

Aliens exist? yes.
Alien's buildings/stuff on Moon? no.
Humans land on Moon? yes.

Anything beyond those answers is just rubbish and craziness. There is WAY too much out there to consider anything else than alien life exists. (whether or not they travel/visit us/etc is a totally different question)

NASA alone couldn't possibly hide proof of alien on Moon. Too many other nations and random people looking for it to be hidden this long. It simply makes no sense.

Anyone who really looks at the footage and evidence provided by not only NASA, but other nations can come to the obvious conclusion, that yes, we've been on the moon. Hell, we've landed multiple robotic items on other planets and asteroids. We've been on the moon.

Can I just add that my personal beliefs are that we did land on the moon, but also that aliens exist and humans HAVE had contact with them- and this contact has been hidden from public knowledge.

Lots of people believe in the moon structures because of some "unreleased footage", but it's actually just a reconstruction from a documentary.

As for the inevitable "Did we land on the moon?" question - Yes, yes we did. The Soviets would have had a field day embarrassing the NASA/USA if they hadn't.

I didn't know that, thought this was real picture.

Well I guess it makes sense that conspiracy theorists have moved on from denying the moon landing.  There is abundant evidence to prove we went there.  It's a lot harder to argue with secret alien moon bases based on nothing at all.

Of course we've been to the moon. The question though is did we go in 1969? As a self proclaimed genius with an IQ over 9,000 it makes sense for America to fake landing on the moon just this first time. If Russia had beat us the whole world would be different and they potentially could have stayed at the top.

However I think if this was the case it would have been unearthed by now.

I have a theory about conspiracy theorists. I think that they are the result of government tests of radioactive materials on the human brain.

I'm a skeptic and don't believe in aliens, but it was a good read.
