Price, being paramount. Even if 3DS launched with mario land/cart, it still wouldn't have sold tremendously well due to its $250 price that is more than a iTouch (considering an iTouch does a lot more) and about what most people pay for a new phone (based on contract pricing).

There will always be a spot for handheld gaming in the same fashion as PCs never killed off home consoles. However, a big difference is the initial cost of a console is almost always far less than a decent PC. If these companies price their portable consoles the same or more than other portable gadgets that do more (typically) as well as play games, well then, the market for portable consoles will drastically shrink.

But DS had COD why do you think 3DS won’t? who is to say that marvel vs capcom wont come to 3DS?

In my book, yes. That's the reason why most of my older consoles are gathering dust. (That excludes novelty (puzzle games, mario, zelda, other classics, etc.)).

Let's just say that FPS games are different. They lose their charm very quickly. Heck, I play Wind Waker on dolphin because I can't stand how ugly it looks on a 42" tv screen with an old gamecube.

I agree, for example the Internet on my 3DS is better than on my Phone (and I have an HTC Wildfire). But my main point is until Phones have better games than on Handhelds then there will still be a market for them.
