Forums - Politics - Greece spending bailout money on weapons

Funnily enough judging by Turkish's response and the content within the thread after, the first thought that came to my mind when I saw the title was "Probably to battle the turks again". There is some serious tension there.

That was my first thought....

then my second thought was... "Hey wait, shouldnt the Eurozone have a mutual defense pact."

Greece's economic problems could make the whole oil rights/cypress thing MUCH more volitaile.

I mean such researves could go a long way to solving their issues.

Additionally.

This "article" seems to be suggesting Military coups seems likely because they buy German. Which is... silly.

They're buying weapons just because Turkey buys them, what Greece fails to realize is that Turkey is on a far higher level and can justify to buy weapons. Greece should stop comparing herself with Turkey and realize its only a little country, little countries should just be nice, its like Cuba measuring dicks with the USA.

Cool. Not an unexpected response from you.

I still prefer to occasionally go to Greece on my holidays....

Nah, I'd rather go to Turkey especially with the highly devaluated Turkish lira right now.

Knowing the long history of ill-will that exists between your nations, i would caution you in how you choose to engage in this discussion.

Its a simple fact that Greece is on the brink of bankrupt because it kept buying weapons from France and Germany, in their head they were competing with Turkey for weapon purchases, Greece is the biggest weapons importer of the EU. Greece should stop thinking its on the same level as Turkey. Its not, it will never be. It has no huge economy nor any regional influence. It should accept what it is.

And yes this coming from the mouth of a Turk may be controversy, but outsiders like you may not know whats going on, and the Greeks themselves won't probably stress on this fact.

Spending hard earned money in military expenses is the lamest expense a nation can have... When I see every evening people scavenging the trash cans...

Wow what a joke. No more help for Greece, kick them out of the EU and let them go bankrupt.

I blame the spartans.

They are going to reconquer Constantinople and have the germans intervene when Turkey fights back.

Defeated Turkey pays for the war, Greece uses the money she earned to bailout her economy, war boosts scientific and technological advancements, Europe is back to her rails.

Some of you have no idea what's going on. Greece is forced to buy those weapons. You think it's a coincidence that the country they're buying weapons from is the one lending them money? Germany and the Eurozone have complete control over Greece. Hell even the Prime Minister was forced to resign and they appointed someone else themselves. Democracy has pretty much collapsed in Greece.

Then again, it's easier to judge someone by reading one article than knowing most of the facts.

I agree with Naruball. Thyssen Krupp Built some boat in greece. And they threated Greece to close the factory if they decided not to buy boat anymore. One third of the greek debt come from the buy of weapon.
But it is easier for Sarkozy or Merkel to say that greek people don't pay taxes. That is absolutly false. But thay decided to make the greek people pay for the crisis and not the weapon company!
