Forums - Microsoft Discussion - MS: Xbox360 best selling console WW in 2011

An exact shipment figure from Microsoft would help put all this to rest. 66 million vs something like 66.8 million makes a somewhat significant difference, but I think even a flat 66 million would put them at a higher shipment figure for the calendar year?

In the grand scheme of things, shipped eventually equals sold anyway, barring total failures like E.T. and the Virtual Boy.

The shipped vs sold disparity only really tells us about each company's short-term momentum, but that's pretty obvious to everyone at this point, and it can be determined well enough with VGChartz's figures.

We only have to wait a week thankfully, but you're right, this won't be settled until shipments are revealed for both consoles.

If we're wildly off with NPD tomorrow perhaps that's an indication, I don't think we will be though.

Actually i think the undertrack for Xbox comes for Europe and A/MEA, i allways doubt those numbers, serious i know its not selling anything in Japan but having Ps3 at 150K in that region and only 70K in Japan means 80K in rest, while 360 was at ~30K. i have alot of doubts in these numbers i bet its undertracked by some thousands. Meanwhile Wii looks overtracked by 800K in Europe, lets see if 360 didnt outsold Wii in europe this holidays, Nintendo reports are gonna be funny.

Will be amazed if Nintendo provide those charts for Wii, don't think Wii outsold any console this holiday in any region bar 360 in Japan, and perhaps some smaller european countries, by a small amount. They'd just be shooting themselves in the foot.

My thoughts using the future shipped data...

66.1m -> 1.6m on shelves (maybe little undertracked... 200-300k)
66.5m -> 2.0m on shelves (undertracked... 500-700k)
66.9m -> 2.4m on shelves (heavily undertracked... 1m)

I can't see less than 1 million on shelves for 360 this time of the year... the history sales shows otherwise... I guess there are 1.1-1.3 million 360 on shelves by the end of the year.

Sony could just be happy with both its own numbers and MS' ones, as MS won't feel pushed to release XB719 too early.

keeping powder dry for now...

But I did say last week on here that I expected some surprising announcements at the CES with regard to the numbers.... Kinect was a given for me. ALL anecdotal evidence and the odd comment from more official sources suggested that Kinect was higher than we have it here. There aint 3m Kinects on shelves thats for sure.

what are you talking about...there has got to be at least 10M siting in peoples closet shelves collecting dust by now.

At OP - well duh.  xbox sold like twice as many consoles as the ps3 or wii.  just wait for NPD then you'll see.

Here in Portugal Wii only sells because people over here are obssesed with Fitness, most of women get fat and men only know to drink bear and have REALLY BAD NUTRITION OVER HERE wich translates into being FAT! Thats why Wii got so popular, 360 and Ps3 are the Consoles of choice over Core Gamers here... 360 has seen alot of growth and i´ve seen alot of new people here with 360s and alot of new people on Xbox Live and especially in Mw3. Ps3 keeps reign supreme over here but not as much as Ps2 era, not even close.

Just for interest, Wii had alot of Pub over here in Radios because it would make you Fit, you know they even didnt advert games but Wii Fit, and every girl rush the shop that holiday season and bought wii (2008 i think).

Portugal it the country of bear and lazy people, most of teens arent fat because of good genetics over here but when they get older genetics wont help you anymore and well it what you see, we are one of the worst countries in obesity problems and bad nutrition worldwide.

So MS shipments next week and when are the rest due?

Just remember this Thursday onwards we get new info every thursday. Tomo NPD, Thurs after MS, Thurs after Ninty, Thurs after Sony.

I think MS is 19th, Nintendo 26TH and Sony 2nd February.

Sounds just like most other 1st world countries (the fat bit). US, UK, Australia, Iceland, Scandinavian countries etc. etc.

Excluding the U.S, i doubt the others are as bad. Not even close.
