Forums - Gaming - Project Gotham Racing 5 & GRID 2 Coming?

VirtualR

Alan Boiston of VVV Gamer has picked on something really interesting in his newest news video (see below) as two major racing game franchises are due to make a return this year.

According to MCV magazine, Project Gotham Racing 5 is planned to be shown off at this years’ E3 expo. The first-ever Project Gotham Racing was a launch title for the original Xbox back in 2001 and with the third Xbox to make its debut at E3 as well, a new PGR title would be the perfect fit.

Following the release of Project Gotham Racing 4 in 2007, the franchise was discontinued with the exception of one mobile title as the developing studio Bizarre Creations was bought by Activision and closed in 2011. That means that a new PGR title will have to be developed by a new studio, back in 2009 Microsoft was said to be on the lookout for a new studio but PGR5 was never mentioned again until now.

Another title to make a return is GRID as Codemasters are apparently planning on a successor for the original title that was released back in the summer of 2008. Since then, Codemasters have very much focused on making the most of their Formula One license as well as the DiRT franchise, GRID 2 is rumored to be first shown on the E3 as well with the release possibly planned for 2013.

Project Gotham was, but Grid wasnt.

^ was just about to say that, unless someone else brought up the PGR IP.

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

I "love" rumors that have nothing to back it up.

I had assumed the IP was owned by Microsoft and that they were not merely the series' publisher

MCV is really putting a lot on the line in terms of E3 rumors of late, and we're still a solid 5 months out.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Both of these franchises are great. I'm pretty sure Grid 2 has already been hinted at though

I'll take a nice tall glass of GRID 2 please, I still play GRID to this day, I prefer it over most racing games.

Apparantly Rare bought a few racing devs recently, so it could be them.

My bet is on Turn 10 though, working alongside it on Forza 5 for next box, PGR 5 at launch, Forza 5 in 2014

Some of the Bizarre guys made a new company together... not sure how big it is though but not impossible?

Will ask someone I know who was a part of that whole shutting down debacle... I think he got a job with them lot. Been a few years with nothing announced, so suggests maybe they're working on something reasonably big.
