Nothing that I didn't already know, although I do find it odd that they talk about a "betrayal" from Nintendo when Sony wanted Nintendo to become a third party publisher on the add-on for their own console. |
No they entered into an agreement with Sony to make (1) a CD ROM add on for snes and (2) Sony would also sell a complete console version , they baulked when they realised that Sony co owning the rights to CD ROM would not just be a hardware supplier but receive royalties on every CD game sold ,but instead of working at a compromise over the licensing issues, probably and (this is conjecture) along the lines of Nintendo buys a license for the add on in return for not having to pay royalties and a split or some other arrangement on the Sony produced console, Instead they went to the other co owner Phillips to do a deal strong in the knowledge that they held all the cards either Sony would come running back with a deal or they would continue with Phillips and Sony would have to junk the playstation, Sony though was left red faced at CES and the rest is history.
