Forums - Sony Discussion - Monster Hunter Vita Inbound? 2nd Half 2012

A Monster Hunter hitting Vita late next year wouldn't really change the Vita's fortunes, as two Monster Hunters would have already hit the 3DS by that point. Any Monster Hunter fan is either going to already own a 3DS, or will be planning to buy one since their friends have one.   Monster Hunter is all about multiplayer, so buying a Vita for the series would be like buying a PS3 instead of a 360 for online multiplayer in the US. It doesn't make much sense when all your friends own a 360.

And I agree with Khuutra. There isn't really anything to convince a PSP owning Monster Hunter fan to buy a Vita aside from game line up, and their favorite franchise is heading to 3DS.

And I think that's a missed opportunity for Sony. I think that had they locked up Monster Hunter on Vita, it would've created a certain synonymy between Monster Hunter and future PlayStation portables, thanks to better implementation of the PSN. Friends lists, trophies, and downloadable content would tie the fanbase to their platform to a degree, which would helped in locking down the franchise for future generations.

Much like how Xbox Live penetration ensures that Call of Duty will be on the next Xbox as soon as it can be.

Meh, it's only speculation for now. I don't really know what all the hubub is about? Until, there is an official announcement, I'll file this under wild fantasy by fans and unknown "insiders".

Also can someone confirm my attempt to wrap my head around the vast amount of sequels is correct. The 3DS game is Monster Hunter 4, which is sequel to the Wii Monster Hunter Tri, which was sequel to the PS2 games. These traditionally sold less, with Tri being the best selling, but still less then the PSP games which...

Are part of the Monster Hunter Freedom series, which number 3 sold 4.5m in Japan.

They've been two seperate series for the most part, with Tri and Freedom 3 both in developement at the same time? Right?

So, while 3DS has MH4, the Freedom series which sells 4x as many copies in Japan, is still up in the air for platform?

Is there any major gameplay difference between the 'tri' series and 'freedom' series... or is it just that Freedom was on portables so sold better last gen. From what I can gather, Capcom will probably stick one on each console to have most bases covered... or at least make Freedom a multiplat.

Yes there are two MH series. 1+G (G is an expansion of the original) and 2, are on PS2, and Tri on the Wii; with a remake of Tri on the 3DS. MH4 has been announced for the 3DS.

MH Freedom,Freedom 2 + FU(Freedom Unite is an expansion of 2), and Portable 3rd(Japan only) are it's own series only on PSP with the exception of an HD remaster of Portable 3rd for the PS3.

MH is succesful due to Japan; PSP and Wii are the same gen, the only real explanation is that the games are more suitable to play on a portable.

Some guys are really not getting how greedy Capcom can be. Im sure there will be one on Vita, hell there was one on 360 for gods sake. Ninty and Capcom arent buddies. Capcom doesnt owe Sony nothing. Its buisness, someone just moneyhatted harder that is all, trust Capcom is not hooking up 3ds out of the goodness of their hearts

aw Sony can't do things alone :( poor Sony...

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

If people really want a certain game they should just buy the system that it's on.

MH + Price cut in Japan for Holiday 2012, unless 3DS has a new Pokemon next holiday Vita and 3DS are going toe to toe in Japan.

You don't think Monster Hunter Vita alone would make the Vita go toe to toe with the 3DS in Japan?

judging from PSV userbase, it will hardly happen in 2012 as PSV is in plight.

I know it's really bombing according to Forbes, Cnet, and some analyst.  It could recoup but it will take some drastic measures.
