they shipped way too much 3g models...the japanese PSV being simlocked to one provider does not help either

I know reports from the first week of sales indicated sell-outs for the wi-fi model and plenty of surplus stock for the 3G model.

I'd imagine there's plenty of surplus stock for both models now, but especially so for the 3G model.

I wonder if the 3G model requires a data plan, or if you can use it like a wi-fi model if you decide not to pay for the plan. I couldn't see myself paying for a data plan anytime soon, but I do want a Vita, and I'd be inclined to get the 3G model just in case I one day have ample excess cash I can burn on the data plan.

Yeah that happend to me with my first iPad.. Didn't get the 3G version... Really regretted it.. Got the iPad 2 with 3G..

From day one I said the 3G version was pointless. Its simply a waste of money to pay an extra fee just to occasionally play away from wifi.

I would NEVER buy a cellular based game console or tablet/laptop. Its just dumb.... all you need is wifi and a phone that can open up its data connection for the rare time you actually need it.

Well, one half of the Vita is now clearly doomed.

You could always hope for a similar discount in the west. If the 3G model is the same price as the Wifi model then there's nothing to lose.

So it might just be that the 3G models aren't selling? When does a new shipment of WiFi units come in?
