Forums - General - iPodiPhoneiPad vs iPod Classic vs Walkman vs Others

I had a 3GS earlier which sounded good in volume and bass.

I just bought iPhone 4S as i wanted good music player, camera, smooth operating system and apps.I assumed the sound quality would be good as 3GS and as iPod's are so popluar and sell so well.

Everything's great but the sound quality just sucks.I bought the phone for $1300 as thats what it costs in India.

I went to test it,first tested iPhone 4S,iPod Touch and iPod and they all sucked.

Then i tested Walkman and it was just pure music bliss.Volume and Bass were just great.

Then i tested iPod Classic had great volume.Didn't test bass as only 3-4 songs were loaded which had no bass.

Then i went to apple store and they said it was a headphones problem,i tested another headphone which was a bit better but don't really remember as it was very quick.

Whats is your take on Apple quality of sound vs Sony and others(please mention which company?

Well apple headphones are shit.

So if you were using them forget the comparison.

Other than that if you simply want a music player them perhaps the walkman is better sound... no idea... kind of apples and oranges though.

I have sennheiser in ear and dre over ear.  Both superb, the dre ones are ridiculously good.

but have you compared to other music players ipod classic and walkman

The more multi purpose a device is, the less quality each purpose will have. iPod and iPhone aren't known for outputting very good sound, Walkman and a few other players are simply better suited for their main purpose; outputting music (yes, the iPod is a music player at heart but has branched off and basically become an iPhone without the phone part).
If you don't want a music player only, your sound quality will suffer, simple as that.
The Dre headset Kowen mentioned is truly superb but you need a fairly good output device to make use of the depth of the audio and get the full range out of them and they cost quite a bit.
Sennheiser also produce good headsets but both that I've had suffered from wear and subsequent audio loss and rattling bass after a fairly short amount of time (one year or less) but this is with extensive use (couple of hours a day).

Like I said though, you'll have to choose between multi purpose or quality of output, simple as that.

thanks alot you too

If you're looking for audio quality you should check for COWON players. I got a J3 after my Ipod classic died about one year ago, it's excellent. It doesn't have internet and apps, but as a dedicated audio and video player it's probably the best.

Here's a review:

edit: Ah ops... you were asking about headphones. If you want good quality sound and relatively cheap earphones go for Sennhiser or cowonCE1.

edit: Also I forgot, check out AKG headphones.  http://www.akg.com/
