Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft patents DVR for game consoles.

PS3 already has TVR in the UK, called Play TV, can record TV while playing a game, and can even copy them off to a usb stick to watch on your PC.

Also has it in japan, im sure this MS patent is just the technology behind there TVR solution, not a patent for TVR.

Around the Network

Strange patent actually. I don't how see this is any different from replays in racing games, and they're not owned by anyone.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Wow if this would allow you to record your gameplays in HD, it would make the HDPVRs obsolete. And those things demand some outrageous prices.

Isn't the play tv a seperate tuner that just uses the PS3 HDD for storage? This looks like it's an IPTV version of sky+ or something.
