Forums - Gaming - Are achievements/trophies getting harder to get in recent games?

This is a question that I have been wondering recently. To me it seems with the games that I play, the achievements in them seem to be a lot harder to get than they were in games 5 years ago.

For example, in one of my favourite games of all time Need for speed Most Wanted you got 1000 gamer points pretty much for just completing the whole campaign defeating each of the 15 drivers in the black list. Fast forward to Need for speed Hot Pursuit released last year, the achievements are ridiculously hard to get where you have to complete the entirety of the campaign (with many many more and harder races than Most wanted), level up to max level 20 for BOTH cops and racers (in SP or MP), do ridiculous challenges like having to win races with only specific cars, take pictures of your cars while in night/day condition, etc, etc. You get my point.

Another example which many of you may be able to relate to. COD 4 pretty much gave most achievements away for playing through the campaign in veteran. It also had specific actions you had to take like "stab a crawling enemy" or "kill an enemy while flashbanged" which you would inevitably end up doing while playing the campaign. The only annoying achievements in COD4 were the intel ones which were more of a chore than anything. Fast forward to MW3, now you have to not only have to play the entire campaign in veteran, you also have to perform specific actions which are much harder like "destroy all targets using 4 shells in the mortar sequence" and "kill 20 enemies with a single chopper run". But this is just the beginning, you still have those annoying find all intel items as well in MW3. The hardest achievements to get are to get 3 stars in every single spec ops missions and buy every single weapon, grenade, killstreak, etc in survival mode which you can only do after you have leveled up to max lv50 in spec ops.  If thats not enough, you have to survive to wave 15 in each and every map as well. I have done all this, so I know how long it took and how hard it can get to do all this and anyone else who has gone through the same can surely agree with me.

All that said, I am not so much complaning about the achievements, but more of stating what I think. I do appreciate that the developers are getting more creative with what achievements they put in their games, which is great because I do like fun challenges in my games. But darn are some of these achievements getting hard and long-winded.

Anyway what do you guys think, anyone else feel the same way?

I am tired of achievements in general. Tired of getting them, tired of posting them on this site, etc.

What does an achievement give you?

G.E 64 had the extra's game down. That is what I want to be rewarded with when I work hard for something.
Getting upgrades is another thing that I like in games like COD or ...again G.E Wii. When I work to get to another level I want rewards!

I know what you mean, there's no real intrinsic value to getting achievements I guess. But there's just something so much fun about getting 100 gamer points popping up on screen when you busted your ass for 10 hours completing the game in the hardest difficulty. But maybe thats just me.
