Why people are predicting it will more than that when there's really no big PSV game is beyond me :P 3DS had the same price and is a handheld, so it should be comparable to it. That said, 3DS had the initial "3D" hype where as the Vita is lacking a bit of that at the moment due to the immense 3DS momentum. Reports have also said that Sony have been a bit conservative with the shipment. If it does anything above 400k, then I'll be surprised |
actually alot of that hype had gone down by the time 3DS launched because of the perioed between announcement and launch. They announced it at E3 2010 and they launched in Feb-Mar.
Alot of the hype was also because of the big launch line-up they had mentioned at E3 an by the time of the launch, most of the games had been delayed.
Nintendo own projections fell short.

But Nintendo shipped around 400k at launch, theyw ere conservative about the launch. Vita on the other hand is gonna be 5000 yen more expensive and actually faces 3DS competition. I think some old MH fans won't be buying the Vita now, and that will affect sales. Maybe week 1 will be gret, but I doubt it for week 2 and onwards unless Sony have a major announcement

Well don't forget that 3DS was replacing almost dead DS which lost almost all of it's momentum before 3DS launch.
Meanwhile VIta is coming while PSP brand is very strong and alive.

Not sure what you are talking about.
DS was selling way more untis in Japan at this time last year than PSP is selling right now. Even at the slow month of Feb before 3DS launched, DS was selling 25K.
Also, even as you stated PSP brand is strong and alive, it doesn't mean it would help Vita sales. People could just pick PSP over Vita which would actually have a negative effect on Vita's number.
