You're right, I was forgetting it's now common for factions to be able to talk at night, so the "mason" end of "lovers" is normal for VGC mafia. But I also like the protection angle, which counters your suspicion based on the likelihood of a double death.
On the other hand, you've been convincing enough that I'd rather lynch prof than nobody.

prof is right if he's telling the truth. I have never openly defended my partners in thread until after claiming. The key to keeping the relationship a secret until ready to claim is to push a bit of suspicion at the other, but also make sure they won't be lynched. Being completely trusting of someone right off the bat is a sure sign of an outside relationship, and mafia will be quick to try and eliminate that.

Prof already explained that. Personally I'm not sure I really agree, because normally you create distance so that if one of you flips the other one(s) isn't associated too much and gives away the partnership. But in this case they both die anyway so it wouldn't matter, except insofar as they would look a little bit more like "trusted town" which mafia like to kill.
But I completely believe prof would do that; it's 100% in character for him.
And you've basically now admitted that you haven't paid any attention to the thread, because I believe I've been going after prof for the longest of anybody (with my vote) so when you talked about me being the sibling it's suspicious that you didn't mention this contraindicating evidence (because in your mind I would not have done that if I was the sibling).
