Sorry, I must look like an idiot here, but why do we all assume that the investigator's actions are restricted to what we tell them to do? I looked at the OP, and I don't see anything that suggests that the investigator doesn't have free will over his decisions

Did you even read my post? If a draw means the investigator cannot choose anyone besides those involved in the tie, what makes you think the investigator could choose someone besides the sole winner in the event of a non-tie?

I read your post, and understand what you're trying to say - but I don't see where you got the information that says that the investigator's role works in that way

After thinking very hard about the matter, I'm not sure that discussing cop candidates is very beneficial to town.
And I'm leaning toward it being actually detrimental.
Perhaps more discussion on the subject is necessary.

I'm pretty sure he meant that he doesn't want us to discuss the cop candidates, and we should have more discussion about the benefits/downfalls of discussing who to investigate before continuing.

The last sentence is supposed to read "perhaps we should discuss whether or not to discuss night votes". I'm both against discussing night votes, and slightly for it. I'm for it because it keeps the choice with the majority. I'm against it because that person who we think should be copped will be a death sentence (if they are town). See, mafia will want to kill anyone who is copped, especially on the night it happens, thereby making the investigation useless.  This also means that doc will have to choose between the majority agreed player and someone else, which means mafia could have free reign to kill anyone in town.

I think that's a bad scenario. I don't see how it's good for town at all. But, it's not my decision to make and therefore, we should discuss whether we should talk about candidates or not.
