Forums - Sony - PS3 to turn a profit soon

I think you're reading it wrong as well, and they don't expect profitability on it until the start of next fiscal year.

OT: elnino is one of the only users who seems to post news regardless of whether it's good or bad for a specific system. Hats off to you, sir.

BR will give them more profit than ever. PS3 is just a tool to giv them BR success.
Simple theory, in this world more ppl watch movie than playing video games
If i am Sony, BR success of course is the priority

Actually you should redo this whole post and the topic should be called.. "PS3 won't be profitable till Fiscal 09"

Well, April '08 - March '09 would be Fiscal '08, but you still have a point.

The topic should probably be changed to "PS3 to turn a profit soon... ish?"

I think it's pretty clear from Kaz Hirai's non-committal statement that a prediction of profitability next year is, shall we say, optimistic.

It might not be unrealistic, the price and production costs of BluRay tech has plummeted, and harddrives are cheaper than dirt nowadays.

I agree on that. People could learn a bit from that dude (JL springs to mind).

If BR takes the PS3 would look alot more attractive. If they keep the other players priced higher then it would make sense to just get a PS3 if you wanted a BR player. I wonder if Kas knew about Warner going BR before these statements.

The blu-ray diodes started out costing OVER $100.00 each. Now estimates are that they are around $7.00 each and will be even less once the format war is over. That will be nearly a $100.00 savings right there.

That $100.00 savings has already been passed on in a price cut meaning that Sony isn't losing anymore $$$ than they were before. That's another reason I think we'll definitely see another price cut sometime this year.

Well, I now only have access to a PS3 & 360...Plan on buying a wii soon (lol, if I can ever find one available!) but will probably wait until some of the major RPG's come out like Dragon Quest & Tales, etc.

Anyhow, I'm so far behind in games to play that I'm not in a huge hurry (lol, haven't even gotten a chance to finish God of War II yet!)

By the way sorry if the title seems misleading but I like to use the tittle from the cover story as another way to give credit on top of posting a link to it. In the end I don't believe the tittle really matters much as it is usually used to just get people to read your stuff and then they can make comments based on that. I know I usually click on almost all the new post just to see what is about regardless of tittle.

To me it sounds like they are hoping for profitability before April 09, which is actually in line with one of their earlier comments... If they are unsure whether it will happen in the next fiscal year at all then there is no way it will happen as early in the year as April 08.

However I don't see how that is a bad thing... I mean assuming Sony are being optimistic as usual, I would guess they might start profiting on hardware some time in Summer-Autumn 2009... This is a lot faster than PS2, which only started being profitable in 2005. Oh and "fiscal 2008" is what we are in now, so the Sony statement was in reference to Fiscal 2009, but as they are being optimistic it probably wont be till fiscal 2010 when profit is made [fiscal 2010 starts in April 2009]

This is news why? Doesn't every company hope to have a profit during their fiscal year?
