No...

It is a re-release, thinking it will touch Avatar is laughable.

Well...The Lion King just came out in Limited release and pushed out over 93 million in America alone. Is it alright if we start off there Maury? When Star Wars was re-release a long, long time ago it pushed out well over 100 million in America alone. Maybe you could find Overseas totals. I do not think I need to though. Titanic being one of the most beloved Romance/adventure movies of all time, it should have no problem almost 15 years or so later doing close to Star Wars numbers. Mom's will want to take their daughters to see it, it is now in 3D, a whole new generation will want to see what the master of 3D has done this time around, and there are more theaters these days. Who knows? Maybe there will be nothing else on when it comes out. The American record has chance of being passed up. International totals....well if these countries are interested enough it may be able to push out big numbers.
Titanic is at about 600.5 million in America as it stands.
Avatar is at about 760.5 million in the Americas (including special edition sent to theaters)

World wide totals for both films:
Titanic = Worldwide: $1,843,201,268
Avatar = Worldwide: $2,782,275,172
That may be hard to overtake, but like I said if enough people want to see it again, then who knows. Just look below, at the time China put in about 43 million into Titanic. They are much more open nowadays so it could go up a lot there as well.

Here are the numbers for other countries last time around.
