The thing is that the successor to the DS is likely being planned (just as most game companies admit they start research on the next system as soon as the current one launches), but since it's now the bestselling system ever in a major region, I think Nintendo will wait until sales slow down, either by time or competition (the PSP's successor).



A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

I would get it only if it had PSP quality. Right now the games still seem so 2D, while the PSP has games almost the same quality as PS2. I hope the next Nintendo Handheld has higher quality allowing some FPS games or other good games, then and only then will I jump on the nintendo handheld bandwagon.
