| Marks said: Oh and here's my rankings for CoD online play since CoD4 1. Call of Duty 4 - Probably will always remain in my top spot. Had the best maps, balanced perks, no killstreak spam like we have today, great guns with varying amounts of recoil, etc. Just the perfect game (sans Martyrdom and Frag x3) 2. World at War - Underrated game. I didn't play it that much since I was still obsessed with CoD4 when it released but it was a great game. Unfortunately it was overshadowed by the still-awesome CoD4 and then the massive hype for MW2. But it had superb maps, and just like cod4 had great perks and killstreaks. 3. Modern Warfare 3 - Debated putting this at #2 but the shitty maps drop it to 3rd. 4. Black Ops - Had awesome maps like Firing Range, Cracked, Launch, Radiation and Summit...but horrid hit detection really set it back. Plus Last Stand was a major problem, and Ghost is probably the most abused perk in CoD history. Ghost was so powerful they had to split it into 2 perks in 2 different tiers for MW3 (Blind Eye + Assassin). 5. Modern Warfare 2 - OMA Noob tubes, Commando, stupid quickscoping, killstreak mega spam, massive camping, heartbeat sensor...need I go on? Only redeeming things about it were good hit detection and some good maps like Afghan, Highrise, Invasion, Scrapyard, Skidrow, Terminal and Wasteland. And just a random list I feel like making (I don't expect anyone else to care), here are the best maps from CoD4 thru MW3 that I would put in the next CoD game if I could, like a greatest hits: From CoD4: Ambush, Backlot, Bog, Killhouse, Crash, Crossfire, Shipment, Strike and Countdown From WaW: Downfall, Hanger, Dome, Asylum, Airfield From MW2: Afghan, Highrise, Invasion, Scrapyard, Skidrow, Terminal and Wasteland From BO: Firing Range, Cracked, Launch, Radiation and Summit From MW3: Dome |
I dont know why they dont just go back to there roots and make a simple multiplayer like cod4. I understand a lot of the kids out there want the crazy uneeded things but i think that just takes away from the balance and throws the whole game off. Im sure also they would loose some sales if they take out the "cool" stuff but cod4 sold very well without it. Uncharted 2 did a great job i think of making a multi like cod4.

Uncharted 2 fighting system copied so much from COD its hilarious. That is why its so much fun!
I think casual gamers like the silly stuff, people really liked the RC car in Black ops multi player and the perks like Ghost and Second Chance.
Black Ops, you had a strong assault rifle with warlord, Ghost Pro and Second Life, and even if you sucked you got tons of kills.

How does it compare to MW2 and BO? |
To me its like this MW3 is how MW2 should have been from a connection and balance persective but with really shitty maps.
BO has those great maps with bad lag and connection problems (even worse these days with i am sure it loosing servers for mw3).

lol Black ops multiplayer was slow and laggy and cheap but had great maps, MW3 is way more balanced but the maps are not good.
| Marks said: Good thread idea! I hate people who base their view of CoD on the single player, nobody plays that shit its all about the online! Here's my opinion: Good things about the game: - Nice graphics, sound, etc. Pretty similar to MW2 but a touch better. - Excellent hit detection and barely any lag so far. Makes BO look horrible in comparison. - Support/Specialist killstreaks are awesome! So much fun to use and way less stressful than trying to build assault killstreaks. - I like how instead of killstreaks its now pointstreaks, stuff like shooting down air support and capturing objectives helps build your pointstreak. - Perks are great and so far are really balanced. I can't yet see any perks as being way overpowered, although there are completely useless perks like Marksman and Extreme Conditioning. - Kill confirmed is so much fun. Great new game mode. Cons: - The maps suck complete dick. There's only a couple I actually like. There are way too many buildings, tight alleyways (to camp), and too many objects to "head glitch" behind. Look it up if you don't know what head glitching is. Hopefully the map packs they make will have more open maps with a bit less cover/hiding spots. - Knifing still sucks, no more 50ft commando lunges but its still annoying getting stabbed when you shoot a guy 4 times. - Its still pretty annoying when you get the first shots in on your opponent and he gets the kill. Especially when the flinching your shots cause move his crosshairs up onto your head and give him a headshot. - Still has the same bullshit from previous CoD's when you die in 1 bullet just because the guy who killed you dies as well. Has anyone else run into this problem? Sometimes I watch the killcam and my opponent hits me with literally just 1 shot and then he dies which causes me to die as well. I don't get it. - Camping is still an issue, but not nearly as bad as Battlefield 3. |
Thanks for saying its a great idea i thought i wouldnt get any interest when i posted it, glad the opposite has happened.
One thing i am curious about is the hit detection and lag better? Or is it that you drop faster (less health IMO) and it is hiding a lot of the problems that the others in the series had. Because when i played it still had some lag and the same stuff from the other games was present like lag, super strong host that wouldnt die, bullets curving around corners. Since there is less health to me now a spray fire will drop you. Its tough trade off if so.
Also why the fuck is there still not dedicated servers? They cant complain about money problems and i think it would make the games a hell of a lot better.

It looks, plays and feels a lot like MW2. If you played MW2 a lot there are no surprises in it. I can't really find any comparisons to Black Ops with it.

Compared to Black Ops the hit detection and lag are 1,000,000x better. Sniping is amazing in the game because of the aim assist + great hit detection + how quick you scope in. There's definitely way less being killed around corners like in Black Ops.
And yes I've definitely noticed recently that I drop fast a lot. Like I'll go around a corner and see an enemy, so I try to quickly go back behind the wall but I'm dead in an instant. It happens quite a bit.
And I'm not really convinced dedicated servers are the 2nd coming of Jesus like everyone thinks. Just look at Battlefield 3, a couple of the maps (Tehran Highway and I can't think of other one off hand) are unplayable due to lag. I don't know if that's due to the servers or shotty development but either way its not like Battlefield 3 never lags.

Im not saying they are the best but i think that its been said quite a lot that they are much better than p2p. And since Cod makes so much money its silly to think that they are not using the best type of servers. This would absolutely fix the over powered host problem though. Bf3 i have had the same things go on but on the whole i would say its not happen nearly as much (I do get in jets a crap ton though). Also bf3's lag i would chalk up to larger map and 24 player count compared to 18 people on COD.
Yea there is no strafing when you get hit anymore you are almost assured to be dead. I cant really say its a million times better the hit detection either ive still been killed from bullets in the short time i have played from around corners and that were not on me and done the same to others. Sniping i cant comment on i dont do that. Black ops i did notice was alright at launch but as it went on it progressively got worse so we'll see how this one does.

Disagree with all of what you said except for 2 things.
Firstly yes maps are somewhat disappointing, especially considering all the great maps we had in COD4 and MW2. I personally much prefer smaller maps as it leads inevitably to more action, but they just simply put too many buildings, tables, chairs, railings, etc, etc that leads to too many hiding places, and it becomes impossible to check every corner. Perfect examples of this are Carbon and Seatown where there's just too much clutter in the maps. On the other hand there are some decent ones like Dome and Resistance, also a few others as well. I think they got the map sizes right, just should have kept them a bit more open.
Second are the killstreaks, where the stacking is back. This was one thing that Black Ops got absolutely right, and now they decide its a good idea to let one ks stack kills to get to another. This leads to hundreds of killstreaks in the air one after another. I really hope they patch this or something, or it could get as bad as MW2 in terms of ks spamming, or even worse with all the new killstreaks.
Bar the above 2 problems, the game is extremely fun, and I am enjoying it more than I'm agonizing over the problems. The ARs and sub-machine guns are 2 classes I use and both are great in this game. Sound and graphics are pretty good too, they made improvements in those aspects where improvements were necessary. So yea, overall great game, just needed some adjustments.
