Well we know THQ is in a desperate position right now facing mounting debts and having to close studio after studio and cut its staff. The publisher is struggling to ensure that it can remain profitable. Recently the publisher announced it is shifting focus away from cheaply made lisenced titles and towards higher quality internal IP.
The publisher said their aim was to release a game in their most successful franchises once every 2-3 years. It would appear the first franchise that is going to see these regular releases is Saints Row and THQ is anxious to re-assure everyone that the franchise is not going anywhere and is a vital key to the publishers long term success.
To reassure everyone THQ today announced that Voalition has begun development of Saints Row 4, in fact the story is already made and the gameplay "I already know what Saints Row 4 is about, and it is wilder than this one," - Danny Bilson THQ. Danny promises that the next installment of Saints Row will push the boundaries even further then Saints Row: The Third "It's a good example of how you take what you have and you say, 'what can happen in the next?'"
It is assumed that Saints Row 4 will be on the next generation of consoles. Also judging by THQ's recent comments on their new strategy we can expect the game to launch in 2014 at the latest but a 2013 winter release is also in the cards.
What do you think is this a bold move for THQ? Announcing a sequel before the prequel hits the market? Is it smart for THQ to be pushing the buttons even further creating a "Wilder" game then the past ones? Are you excited and looking forward to the fourth installment?
