People who say linearity is lame and praise these open world games as blatantly superior are f*cking retarded, no offense. There is nothing wrong with a tight linear game, in fact it's usually better imo. Games where you can do anything tend to get a bit aimless and boring for me.  I don't get this all of a sudden hate of linearity like it's a bad thing.

So basically you call people who bash linear games retarded and then you go on to bash open world games... I have every right to think a linear cinematic game is rather boring and not be labeled as a retard because of it.

Anyway the people who hate linear games have hated them for a while. People have been complaining about how linear call of duty, final fantasy, halo, etc.'s campaigns are for quite a few years now. Its just the uncharted fanboys have been whipped into a frenzy because the bashing of linear games has now hurt uncharted 3's precious metacritic.

Almost all games are linear, to call linear bad is to ignore history.  People who "hate" linear hate when it's done badly.  Just like I hate when a game is way too open for it's own good, and loses direction and becomes aimless.  Quality is quality, and it should shine through either way.  I'd say the people who want Skyrim to predominate over games like Mario Bros. and Halo and Final Fantasy are in the minority, even if some good open world games shine through.

re-read what he said.

he clearly says people who bash linear games for not being open are retarded.

not that people who prefer it are retarded.

open world doesnt mean better game, which some reviewers seem to think.

"oh this game isnt very good because its not open" is retarded

just as the argument more players in multi makes a better game.

MAG has 256 and it sucks, while Uncharted has 10 and its awesome

conversly Crysis 2 has 10 and it isnt very good, while Killzone 2 has 30 and its awesome.

I don't get people that complain about a game being linear unless all you play is games like Oblivion and traditional style RPG's then pretty much every game is linear.

I really don't get it though why does every game needs to be an open world? Why does every game needs to have branching paths? Etc. Etc.
If weren't for uncharted's linearity, it won't be the same successful game as it is now.
