Forums - Sony - So sony getting their own Smash Bros?

If only Crash Bandicoot and Spyro weren't sold.

However, I remember rumours about this from a long time ago so who knows if this is really happening.

Well such a title has been rumoured since N64, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if Sony actually did launch a title like this. Sony is known for taking competitors concepts and doing there own thing with them. I am sort of surprised that more SmashBros style 2D fighting games don't exist. I mean their is the Ninja Turtles game and that Cartoon network one. But over all Sega didn't bite when DreamCast was failing, Sony didn't bite and Microsoft doesn't have enough first party franchises or characters to actually make a game like SmashBros.

I do think this is fake simply because very few details are given. If the information he has is so sensitive and he can't reveal all of these facts why would he have Sony's permission to announce the software in the first place? If he doesn't and he has a source he should still be spilling more then this. I know protecting your source is very important but nobody will take you seriously if you have nothing remotely factual to back it up.

I think a Sony Smash Bros could potentially sell up to 6-million copies if the console its launched on flourishes. That would not be that bad at all, also I agree with other users that third party characters might be necessary for the title to succeed. Sony's franchises are big but without Final Fantasy characters or Metal Gear Solid characters or characters from other Sony based third party franchises they are set to lose out to Nintendo.

My suggestion for characters would include several games. Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid is a must, Sony should also negotiate with Kojima to not allow Nintendo to place Snake in the next SmashBros. Then Crash and Spyro are both important they were two of Sony's biggest franchises on PSOne and like Nintendo's old characters (Example: IceClimbers)they are important despite slower sales these days the titles. Cloud from FF7 is a must more important then even Snake. The lead protagonist from GTA5 should make an appearance. leon or another lead character from Resident Evil should be in the game and lastly a character from Tekken should also be present.

Sony needs to ensure the game features almost all of the biggest characters in Sony gaming. They should have a roster of about thirty characters and of those thirty at least ten should be third party.

Any examples? I happen to know alot of these so called 'stolen idea's' are not so stolen after all and I am willing to try to find evidence of 'stolen idea's' not being stolen but actually being in development with Sony earlier.

When we talk about stolen idea's I mainly speak of actual rip-off's. Things that are 90% the same as the original product and don't offer anything new.

I will also obviously say if I can not find any proof of Sony not 'stealing' and I will use credible sources and post those here.

Umm I can give tons of examples, if you used supposed evidence that proves Sony was working on these products prior to Nintendo's release same can be said for Nintendo. Also who's to say Sony was actually working on these products they obviously will say they were to avoid embarrassment but we all know that they aren't ahead of Nintendo often if ever.

Example the WiiMote entered development during the NES days according to Nintendo. So even if you claimed that Move was in development prior to launch there is no way you could say it began during the NES days before Sony even entered the industry. In fact the PlayStation was stolen technology it was based entirely around Nintendo's SNES:CD prototype when it was built. Sony added additional features to the system when it was later launched as PlayStation. I could then also say rumble and courts sided with the creators which included Nintendo proving Sony ripped the technology off and Sony had to settle in order to use it again in PS3. The tilt censors used first in Nintendo games which Sony later made a huge feature of its PS3 controller.

Look you can't possibly argue that Sony came up with all these ideas first. If they did indeed develop them prior to Nintendo then they would have likely released them before Nintendo. Yet every time Sony lags behind Nintendo in PlayStation's history the first thing I haven't seen a competitors console do first is some of Vita's new features, DVD is also an exception.

Anyways no point in trying to defend Sony, you can't possibly win or change my mind. I only listed a few examples but their are plenty more. Sony adapts fast adjusting to its competition by releasing identical or slightly changed products.

This for instance.. are you aware who build the CD prototype for the SNES and then got ditched (therefor dismissing Nintendo from any rights to the hardware)?

some new info:

This story got a lot of people excited, for like me personally, many gamers out there have been wishing to see Sony’s own heroes and villains duke it out in a fighting game for years.

It’s awesome to see titles like Street Fighter X Tekken, Marvel vs. Capcom, etc. because they bring us some of the most exciting matchups and really show that the developers listen to what we want. I personally am also a fan of guest starring roles in games, like Link in SoulCalibur II, Kratos in Mortal Kombat, and so on.

Yet with all of these great crossovers and cameos, you’d think that the obvious should have happened by now and that’s PlayStation 3 having its own batch of representatives take on one another…well it’s finally happening.

Being a martial artist and a video gamer has made me a tremendous fan of fighting games and I hope you’ll all be patient and understand that I have to wait until November 3rd until putting up more information. I will tell you now however, that the update will specifically be about gameplay. It will definitely be an update worth checking out. Thank you.
