You have a fundamental misunderstanding of the nature of gender.  Gender is not the same as a persons sex.  Sex regards what physical make up you are i.e. Male, Female, or Intersex (correct term for hermaphrodite).  From wikipedia: Gender Roles refer to the set of social and behavioral norms that are considered to be socially appropriate for individuals of a specific sex in the context of a specific culture, which differ widely between cultures and over time.

Regardless one's sexual reproductive organs are not the only factor in one's gender, gender covers fashion, interests, habits,  general outlook on life etc.  It has been shown that this outlook on life is caused by having an intersex brain. http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn20032-transsexual-differences-caught-on-brain-scan.html

Funny. Your definition mainly supports the ideea that gender is a social construct. If that's the case, then the ideea that a person can be transgendered is kinda silly, as it requires for gender to be biologically determined. Your definition of gender is kinda in contradiction with the whole 'intersex brain' thing.

I do not understand the average response to this thread.  It would appear that 99% of you did not click the link and do not realize this 'boy' is transgender.  Joecool7 seems to have written an essay without acknowledging or realizing that the child is transgender.

Don't you think you're getting a little ahead of yourself? he's jsut a little kid.

I don't see what age has to do with it.  Being transgender isn't about taking hormones and getting surgery.  Transgender describes someone who's gender identity does not match socially accepted assignments based on sex.  The child likes wearing girls clothes and playing with barbies, do you think that when he gets older he's going to suddenly have a drastic change in his fashion sense?  Did you go from wearing girls clothes to guys clothes as you got older?

Studies show that if a child wishes to cross dress in early child hood they are very likely to be transgendered in adult life.  If the child is dressing like a woman now he will be 20 years from now as well, as long as he isn't denying himself of what he wants.  Also I posted a link earlier to a study which found that transgender brains are halfway between male and female.

Transgender is not a term concerning biology, but rather social roles, the origin of the word gender comes in the context of social roles. Before 1955 gender wasn't even used for anything related to sex or social roles (common usage was for grammatical categories) .  Gender is both a social construct and influenced by biological factors (society being made up of people is always influenced by biological factors). A man with an intersex brain will have a mentality that is partially feminine, thus he will express it by wearing clothes that are androgynous or feminine in nature or whatever he may do.  But what is considered masculine and what is considered feminine?  These are cultural so we can't even say what he would look like without proper reference.  In fact a man with an intersex brain may fulfill the social roles that define a 'man' in his society and possibly be transgendered in another.  All these studies simply implicate is that gender does not simply divide into man and woman as we know them today.

I know that 75% of the very feminine boys grow up to be homosexual in the future BUT it doesn't necessarily mean they are gonna be transsexuals.

OT:

Not all boys like rough activities and not all girls like the soft ones. Just make scouts with different activities and let the kids choose which one they prefer.

Obviously not all the boys are the "Same" just because they have "XY" and It's not fucking "Scientifically" proven that they are -.-

It actually is. Transgendered people are considered to be suffering from GID (Gender Identity Disorder). The 'treatment' for this 'disorder' is generally psychological therapy, followed by hormone therapy and sex reassignment surgery. The ideea that if someone whose sex is masculin likes to play with dolls means that he's actually a female is very counter-productive to any attempt to undermine rigid gender roles. There's a reason why sex reassignment surgery is permitted and even state funded in Iran.

I know very well where the term comes from. And believe it or not, but it gender was initially invented the differentiate between biological sex and the social behaviors attributed to each sex. Up 'till there was no difference between the two concepts. The concept of gender was used to show that the way men and women act isn't a natural consiquence of they being men and women, but a result of social indoctrination. The entire concept of being 'transgendered' is simply backwards.

Yes, I agree with everything you said. Just becuase a boy likes to play with dolls doesn't mean he's actually a girl.
