Forums - Gaming - My Retinas got burned. And I outdated the PS3 and 360. Bugger.

I feel like a giddy kid. Like a kid who just played Nintendo for the first time.

I went to my mates house yesterday where he sat me down and started up his amazing PC. Low and behold he had Battlefied 3 on PC.

All I can say is Holy Crap. This is Next gen.  realise now just ow far far far far far far behind PS3 and 360 are inn terms of hardware. It wasnt aa little beter. It wasnt alot better. It was a wole generration  better. PC players have waaited to see what PC games could look like now, and i have to say it absolutely blew away any game Ive ever played on console. BLEW clean out of the water. Wait no solar system.

Seriously  I am quite jealous as a console gamer that you guys have got that level of fidelity and realism. Man those explosion are photorealistic. Seriously.

The part where yu first see the desert. That desert looked real. In fact I swear it was real. it as to be. The sand in the wnd, the multitudee of sand flicked about by tankss and men. Oh it is so good.

PC gamers enjoy.

EA you just made me realise PS3 360 are miles behind. And I'm truly ready for a new console. Espcially if Frostbite 2.0 can do that on the new consoles. As well as IDs new ngine and the one Epic are working on.

TRuly gobsmacking.

I've always wondered why you don't game on a PC

I stopped due to money of upgrading. And now I'm hoked on Live as much as I am on Fidelity.

Soon Xbox Live i being incorporate into Windows 8, so I must just dabble back into a Xbox / PC setup. I have money invested in Zune, Live and HALO!!!!!!

LOL.

But in all seriousness Batlefield 3 is worth seeing at top specs on PC. Astonishing.

Do you ever post without hyping something?

I played Battlefield 3 on absolute max on 3 monitors last night. It looks great...but there are at least 10 Wii games I found more fun and I'd rather play than Battlefield 3...in all their SD glory.

Don't you mean in all their HD Dolphin glory?

haha...well yes since its around and it enhances wii games so much. But if it didn't exist, I'd still take Super Mario Galaxy on a regular CRT TV over Battlefield 3 on 3 monitors any day.

Kind of the reason I cheapened out with a single 6850 HD and went for a Phenom II X4 965 and oc'd it to 4ghz. Emulators. PCSX2, Dolphin - all the good stuff in HD and with a good dose of AA. Consoles have the generally far far far more fun games, or at least I think so. The games, on their original hardware, are just so incredibly jagged.

Yup! Was it running at high FPS too? I can run BF3 on my PC @around 30 FPS with almost everything on High. Even that looks absolutely incredible! I'm thinking about upgrading my PC though for the extra FPS and ultra settings

Everything was maxed. And he said it was fairly stable at around 40fps most o the time.

But yeah your a lucky dude.

Thats what I like to hear. :)

Off topic...when you overclocked it, did you increase FSB frequency or just the multiplier. I actually had the x4 955 and I had it at 4 ghz as well using only the multiplyer. It didn't really help much. However when I brought the multiplyer to stock and increased the FSB frequency, it helped a lot more despite only being able to get up to 3.8 ghz on the CPU. Higher memory controller and ram speed helped me run games better than CPU speed alone.

meh. Ps3 BF3 is just as fun to play. Who needs photo-realism anyways.

Multi. only. Used the PCSX2 "FFX-2 metric" (if it doesn't stutter - you will manage to emu pretty much ANY PS2 game) - at stock, its cinematics stuttered a little, at 4ghz, it's a constant 50fps (my game is a PAL one). No other games stutter, either (currently playing SMT: Nocturne on it, using my PS3 controller ;) ). Sonic Colors and MKWii are also perfect.

The board is a Gigabyte GA-990XA-UD3, and the cooler a Mugen 2 Rev.b, for reference's sake.

Right on. But yeah if you see things starting to stutter with games, try doing the FSB increase and lowering the multiplyer to stock.  It added about 1000 points to my CPU and GPU score each in 3D mark Vantage (performance), despite being only 3.8 ghz rather than 4.
