Forums - Sony - Sony Ramping up PS3 Game Production.

Sony DADC’s Russian base in Borovsk is now going to start producing PS3 games. The factory was originally bought by Sony earlier in the year from Russian firm Kaluga, and began manufacturing Blu-ray discs in July. With a capacity to produce around 450,000 units per month. Link

I thought this was about something else. Has there been a blue ray disc shortage?

no must be just a need to product more games. bluray should be doing fine.

I wonder if this could lead to cheaper prices in the region?

It'll probably be run like the Sony plant in Australia, the one in Australia has six Bluray production machines two are used for PS3 games, two for movie's and TV and the other two are for third party product.

Thanks for the quick response, Sorry for the late reply. Maybe they just know there will be more interest in teh PS3 after all these great games are coming out so they do not want to be limited.

i know it meets demand but 450,000 sounds kind of low.I want blu-ray to be in mass production so that they become cheaper and you can use it as storage.

Sony ramping this up cause of the japan earthquakes and the chinese currency rising and also local cheap distribution

Blu-ray discs in my city still cost $3.5 per 25gb single layer disc

450k per month seem low so it must be more.

I'm surprised no one mentioned any "in Russia" jokes.
