He still doesn't get it. Reading closely, Pachter is actually still predicting Wii sales to decrease in 2008 and that the "fad" will start to wear off. The only reason sales won't drop is due to 2007's supply constraints:

Regarding the Wii, Pachter says, "I was way too low on Wii [in 2007], with a forecast of 6.4 million this year. That will end up being the number, but only because Nintendo was so supply constrained. Had they shipped enough units, the number may have been as high as 9 or 10 million.

"My estimate for 2008 is 8 million, so sequentially the Wii will show growth and will be the number one console. Had the Wii been in ample supply in 2007, the numbers would likely have shown a decline in 2008, but alas, that was not the case, so we'll never know."


Another fun prediction:

The investment analyst expects Xbox 360 to sell slightly better this year over the 4.5 million units shifted in 2007. By comparison, the PS3 will double its U.S. sales, he believes, once a mid-year price cut happens.

So 360 sales will stay constant, Wii sales will increase by about 20%... and PS3 sales will DOUBLE?! Uh, sure, good luck with that one, Michael.

What is he basing this stuff off of?  Look at the DS -- sales are only getting stronger and stronger.  The Wii is tracking similarly to the DS except that the Wii is selling at an even faster rate.

So he originally predicted 6.4 million Wiis for 2007, followed by a drop in 2008,... and now he is saying they have done the 6.4 million in 2007, but my prediction should have been higher than this because supply pulled it down to 6.4.
Then he goes on to predict 8 million for 2008, which would have been a drop from this year had demand been satisfied?

The guy is a little odd.
