Voice acting definitely has its place in some video games however I'm not a fan of it.
Why? Because it's SLOW.
I can read roughly 10 times faster than most voice-acted characters talk. ssj12 may love to spend his game time listening to the characters talk, but when I play video games I want to play the games which usually equates to turning off voice overs and reading text so I can get past that stuff to get onto the playing part. If I want to waste my time listening to people talk, I'll turn on the radio.
Cutscenes bug me when misused. Final Fantasy and Xeno games in particular are notorious for misusing them. Final Fantasy cutscenes have long been beautiful and amazing whereas the game hasn't. Nothing takes me out of the game like saying "Here's a really amazing FMV with characters and everything... now back to your regularly scheduled ugliness." The contrast between the two just doesn't help. Likewise, cutscenes that are... too long, unskippable, before large areas that may kill you, and too freakin' long (in case you missed it the first time) are also bad.
These are both tools game developers can use to enhance their games... that all-too-often get misused.
